Excellent headphones and great price/performance ratio. They are much more detailed than the Aeon series, which I also own (both open and closed). They are heavier, but still very comfortable for long listening sessions. The highlights are very detailed mids and treble, strong sub-bass, and an overall very smooth presentation. Sound isolation is excellent. The sound stage is very wide for a closed back. The mid bass is flat and might sound lacking for some types of music like metal, which needs a boost in this range. I'm using the Schiit Loki to good effect in this range for certain music genres. This headphone responds very well to EQ/Loki.
I think these may be very source dependent. I was using the Jotunheim which pairs well in terms of slam and detail, but can be too bright in the treble and upper mids. I just received the Lyr 3, which is a much better pairing to my ears. The sound stage is larger, micro detail is improved, and the mid-bass is more prominent. It's an overall slightly warmer presentation for a very neutral to neutral-bright leaning headphone.
Interesting to hear about how the combos work with the CX. thanks for sharing
