Product Description
In Japanese, “Kihon” means “fundamental.” For everyday all-black denim, “fundamental” means a great fit, fade, and flexible look. Crafted by Naked & Famous and infused with Drop-exclusive designs, our Kihon jeans earn their name.
The Best Black Denim, Bar None

Everyone needs a pair of black jeans. Some of us need two. Or 10. Black works with just about anything, but that doesn’t mean any dark-colored denim will do the job. When it comes to this fundamental, your wardrobe deserves the best. Introducing the Kihon: our latest raw denim collaboration with Naked & Famous. Combining the brand’s exceptional craftsmanship with our exclusive design additions—including 12-ounce slubby denim material, all-black accents, and flattering fits—the Drop + Naked & Famous Kihon raw denim jeans deliver comfort, longevity, and versatile aesthetic appeal. They’re an essential everyday piece, which is why we named them Kihon: Japanese for “fundamental.”

Building the All-Black Look

Like all Naked & Famous raw denim, the Kihon began with meticulously sourced materials from Japan, the denim capital of the world. Taking input from our community, we chose to make the Kihon with 12-ounce slubby stretch denim: a fabric known for its unique fades, short break-in times, and excellent shape retention. The Kihon Black Stretch Denim contains 2 percent Elastane for increased comfort and stretch recovery performance, allowing the Kihon to stretch and snap back to shape wear after wear. To complete the all-black presentation, we added  exclusive  black-coated military-grade YKK trim and an exclusive blacked-out leather Naked & Famous patch. For the final step, we turned things over to the jean producers Naked & Famous, who made our designs a reality by sewing each pair of Kihon jeans at their family-owned production facility in Canada.

Rope Dyed in 2 Flattering Fits

Look closely at our Kihon jeans and you’ll see quality in every seam. The raw denim gets its brilliant black color from rope-dying: a process through which each rope of yarn is dipped into a series of black sulfur dye baths and exposed to the air. Never left in the baths long enough for the dye to penetrate its core, the yarn retains a white interior. With wear, this white emerges. Together with the coveted texture of slubby denim—achieved through twill weaving on vintage shuttle looms—rope-dyed cotton facilitates a fade that’s unique to each pair of well-worn Kihon jeans. Available in two flattering fits, the regular-taper Weird Guy and the slim-taper Super Guy, the Kihon is your next fundamental.
