Hi everyone,
Unfortunately, we have closed the pre-order and canceled all transactions for the Firecracker under threat of legal action.
Pete Carey has been making knives with bottle openers in the spine - like the one in the photo below - since 2001, but we learned this morning that DPx Gear filed a patent for a similar mechanism in 2012. We received a cease-and-desist order from DPx Gear earlier today and we’ve canceled this project to avoid a protracted legal engagement. We’d rather use our time working with designers; adding to the community instead of our legal budget.
Pete wanted to make sure that everyone knows he feels badly that we can’t deliver these to you. We really respect Pete, and we hope you’ll have another chance to own one of his knives. We’re in conversations with Pete regarding a new design, and you check out his existing work at http://www.careyblade.com/ or upcoming shows like G11 and the CA Custom Knife Show.
Thanks for your interest in this project, we’re sorry it won’t be possible to make this one happen.
