This further confirms the tone deafness of Drop. Nobody wants plate mount stabilizers.

hottnucks>Nobody wants plate mount stabilizers.
  1. lots of people own platemount keebs and need/want replacement stabs
  2. there are a dearth of high-quality plate mount stabs in the marketplace, this (potentially) fills a niche
  3. people are allowed to like different things
  4. you're allowed to not buy them if you don't want them

hottnucksPlate mount stabs are not bad at all. The whole screw-ins are better is a myth. I for one use plate mount stabs for my Oring mount boards such as the Ciel 60 since it makes my life easier whenever I need to mod my board. All stabs, plate mount, or otherwise will require lubing so I would say give Phantom stabs a try before writing them off.

Got excited then I saw they’re plate mount…
They will not be screw-in. Clip-in PCB-mount to begin with (possible addition of screw-in later, but not guaranteed).

HoffmanMysterIs there a status update regarding the progress of designing/producing PCB mount stabilizers?

I will be watching reviews for these with great interest. I of course won't buy them unless they drop a PCB mount version, but it is nice to see some innovation happening in the stab space.
webpabloSoon TM We released these first since our mainline of keyboards are currently plate mount. We'll have more news to share soon.
YanboWuDrop keyboards are “currently plate mount.” Maybe I’m reading too much into things, but I really hope that means Drop is releasing new keyboards. Before the end of April.

Anyone have images of the stem? Essentially do these need clipping or are they zeal-esque?

Exactly what I wanted to see. Thanks a lot!

Thanks for the detailed photos! Yeah, surely a fresh coat of lube would be good.

Any plans for normal clip/screw-in pcb mount stabs in the future? Also any sound tests (with/without lube) ?

sortofsleepyIs that a thing to have a sound text with out lube? I don’t think I’ve ever seen that. Pretty sure any stab will sound bad with out being modded.

RawdilzSort of? Definitely not common to not use lube but sometimes you don't need lube; For example, I have a stock HHKB that sounds fine without lubing. Realistically sound is more of a personal preference. Since the big selling point of these is that these are "quiet" compared to other stabs it'd make sense(at least to me) to have a lube free test as well as a test with lubed stabs for comparison.
A mighty contender to the (EVERGLIDE PANDA GOLD-PLATE MOUNTED STABILIZER SET). We will have to see how this will work...
“we opted for a plate-mounted design to upgrade older Drop models” Are new Drop keyboards PCB mount?

fer.realSome of the wording definitely makes it sound like new Drop keyboards are in the works.
fer.realIt's a double edged sword. On the one hand there are going to be a lot of reasons for having more "standardized" designs for their main boards. On the other hand, I like the design differences of Drop's integrated plate mounted designs.

@HoffmanMyster Hi, I received an early set of these and was going to leave a review, but I don't have the option to add one since I didn't technically purchase them. So I was wondering if I should just add my thoughts here or if there was a way to add a review that I missed. Thanks
ChewieSoloYes! I should have included some instructions on that, sorry. Please leave your review here in the Discussion section, and shoot an email to community@drop.com with your review Title, Star rating, and Would you recommend to a friend. We'll then convert the comment to a review. :)

How do these plan to handle the rattle from the wire? Generally, keyboard enthusiasts coat the ends of the wires in a thick lubricant, and also pad the part of the stem where the wire sits (holee mod) so that the wire doesn't make noise. Assuming these don't come pre lubricated and don't have dampening material inside the housing and stem for the wire, I wonder if they still suffer from wire rattle.
OddCowardWire rattle is not bad at all - and certainly *much* better than the stock stabs. I just posted a comparison vid in the stickied comment above. For reference, the sample set that I'm using does have a small dab of lube on each wire where they're inserted into the stems.

HoffmanMysterI noticed that they do have legs that can be clipped; any idea why Drop decided to keep those legs, rather than manufacture them without, similar to how Zeal does? Also, in the pictures I'm seeing, the tolerances and precision are absolutely incredible, though I do worry that manufacturing tolerances could lead to issues down the line. Any thoughts on that concern? As a side note, I'm definitely considering (pre)ordering these sometime soon. The genuine cherry stabs I have still manage to have some pretty bad noise - primarily the wire rattle - even after some very heavy lubing, bandaid mods, etc, so I certainly hope that these can do better. I don't have the hand dexterity to accomplish the holee mod, sadly.
