Hey everyone, going to start updating here pretty regularly.
August 26th Update: The short of it is that GMK production as a whole is running behind by about a month so these are now estimated to ship to our warehouse in late September, with a target date of September 30th. Given typical transit times this means that these will ship from our warehouse to everyone closer to October 16th, but that is of course subject to a little flex with the way things are right now.
The slightly longer version is that a lot of businesses closed down for awhile due to COVID and GMK started running into supply issues with their resin supplier who provides all the colored plastic for their keycaps. As of now production moving forward and GMK is working as quickly as possible to catch back up, but the lack of resin is causing a small cascade effect which is resulting about a month of delay to the entirety of their production schedule.
We wanted to have some kind of realistic timeline in place before updating, but I apologize for it being last minute. I'll post back here with any new information as I get it.
AlexPkTHIS IS DISAPPOINTING! IT WAS A PRE ORDER RIGHT? YOU HAVE PLENTY OF TIME TO TELL US ABOUT THIS! THEN YOU WILL SAY ON THE SHIPMENT DATE THAT IT WILL BE MOVED! DAMN! WTF! YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO RUN A BUSINESS! YOU SHOULD GIVE COMPENSATION FOR YOUR TROUBLES!
Nov 12th Update: Keycaps are just being finished by GMK now, we're on track to deliver by Nov 30th.
Nov 20th Update: We're emailing GMK literally every day to ask for an inbound tracking number, nothing yet. I'm guessing we're going to slip a few days from "Nov 30th" but it's unclear at the moment. Will provide more updates early next week.
Nov 25th Update: Keycaps have been picked up from GMK. They're on route to us- should arrive early next week. Keep in mind this is essentially the absolute busiest time in E-commerce so there are processing/handling/shipping delays. I'll get you more detailed info once we have it, but things are moving in the forwardly direction.
Nov 30th Update: Shipment hasn't moved yet, still in Germany. We're following up to find out what's the hold up, but the generic answer is "everyone is busy, planes are full, covid is raging, etc etc." Trying desperately to get more clarity for everyone and will post as soon as I have any info.
Dec 2nd Update: Well, things change quickly. Cargo landed at JFK Airport and they're now coordinating getting it to our warehouse. Orders shipping next week is reasonably likely, if not the follow week.
Mind-boggling to me that you wouldn't sell at least a traditional GMK base kit for this at a higher price point.
Offering kits only designed for your own boards causes many problems for people who would want to use this set on something else instead. @YanboWu
Wow...the offerings in these kits are atrocious and obviously aimed to only fit the boards that Drop offers (CTRL, ALT, SHIFT), in those specific layouts, and nothing else. I don't expect much from this place anymore and I'm still disappointed. You all should know better by now.
Hey everyone,
Wanted to take this opportunity to answer some of the questions we are seeing in discussion.
A question I’ve seen coming up is why this "incomplete" set has been offered instead of a full rerun of GMK Red Samurai. I understand the frustration from those that wanted a full set, however this product run was aimed create more compatibility to many of the keyboards we’ve sold in the last few years. In fact, one of the more common requests from many users was for us to offer more custom keycaps for these keyboards without having to buy a bunch of unused keycaps.
The GMK Red Samurai, MT3 /dev/tty, XDA Canvas, and SA Pulse sets we offered in limited kits were our attempt to address this request. This does not mean we’ll move away from traditional keycap group buys. Every month, we’ll continue to launch full fledged keycap buys with all the options and Red Samurai will definitely return at some point where people can choose from latin only alphas to Dvorak compatibility.
For those that are curious - there will also be a full GMK group buy with one of our favorite designers before we wrap up 2019 - full fledged keycap group buys are one of my favorite product offerings each month and we’ll continue to find cool new designs and bring back beloved sets.
I was just about to get excited about this, but then I saw the kits and my enthusiasm disappeared instantly. There really isn't a good reason to make the kits compatible with Drop keyboards only...
Definitely sitting this one out until a proper base kit and child kits are offered instead of this nonsense :(
What would it hurt to add a compatibility kit though? It wouldn't cannibalize the sale of other kits. Quite the opposite it would help sell extra kits from people who are abstaining currently.
Hey everyone,
To continue what we started with the SA Pulse TKL keycap buy, we are launching a collection of iconic keycap sets from the past for pre-order.
The three keycap sets are -
GMK Red Samurai by @RedSuns
MT3 /dev/tty by @Matt3o
XDA Canvas by @Mito
For this run of GMK Red Samurai, each of the kits will come with the nishi alphas along with cloud novelties as well as a few choices in accent colors. The colors of this keycap set are especially striking and we want to share that with the community.
This pre-order is designed to let newcomers (and those who missed the original buy!) that have purchased keyboards like the ALT, CTRL or many of our Ortholinear keyboards, an opportunity to own one of these awesome sets.
Please also note, for your early support these sets are currently available at a pre-order price for a limited time only. After production is complete, they will be available at a regular price.
As always, appreciate the support and enthusiasm from the community.
May 21 Edit:
Hey everyone, wanted to have a chance to address some of the questions and concerns I’ve seen in the discussion pages regarding the keycap collection.
First, I want to assure everyone that this does not mean we'll stop doing the custom keycap sets. Sets like Laser simply would not exist without these type of offerings. For custom keycap sets, we’ve been running them on a monthly basis and will continue to do so. For those who are looking for a great custom GMK set - we have a couple great ones coming up in June and July.
One consistent request we’ve seen for the ALT and CTRL keyboards is additional keycaps. These four sets were designed to showcase the different profiles and designs in the keyboard community and they were designed for various Drop Studio keyboards.
We had picked these four sets because they were all recent offerings (at least by keyboard community standards!). Of course, the custom versions of these runs will still return at some point in the future for people that want to pick from all options for these sets.
JWooLatin only legends is something to consider for a future drop. There were a lot of people who wanted hiragana/nishi or wondered how it would look after getting the latin only alphas. This is probably the time to try it out in one of the more common layouts. However, you are not forced to join this type of drop.
RedSunsthanks! this helped me pull the trigger on the 1800 set now. I checked everything and it has every key to fit the nym96 keyboard. I can even swap out the + key on the numberpad for 2 keys so this works awesome for me. I'll just hope to pick up extras if this drops in full later.
