This price is not what it should be. The appeal on the HD 6XX is exactly the huge price advantage over the HD 650. You have to bring it down to under $1000 if you want to convert people, especially HD 6XX owners that want to make the jump. Put it at $899 or so and it will sell insanely well for years to come. PS.: for God's sake, fix that glare and resonance on the treble.
deppkg800S is selling at $1,260 at Sennheiser US. If you include the cost of the balanced cable which comes with the 800S, you only save $60 with the 8XX (and that's after deducting the "$200" drop credit) after waiting for 9 months lol
LevvyThis is the second time I've seen someone say this now... How are you getting that $1,260 price? I see $1,399 on the Sennheiser US site.
For $1,260 I might just ditch this and go buy the HD 800S.
Levvydidn't know that. also im not saying this is a great deal over all either considering drops awful costumer support that's the worst I've seen among any company period. If the difference is that small right now id say buy the 800s at $1,260, you get it 9 months sooner and will have a much easier time getting repairs.
Igor123456789Why do people keep saying "HD6XX is exactly the huge price advantage over the HD650"?
I bought a brand new HD650 on June 26, 2017, for $315.00 on Amazon and that wasn't some crazy sale at that time. The HD6XX came out in late 2016 or sometime in 2017 for $200. Was there an uproar in the forums at the time for not being a big enough discount over the HD650?
The HD660S was on sale during the past holidays for $300. Where's the uproar with the HD6XX for being too expensive at $220 when you can get an HD660S for $80 more during that sale...
c_dubbclearly you don't see how much of a percentage difference there is between a headphones that's 315 selling for 200 and a headphone that is 1300 selling for 1100 with fewer accessories
shenan2437% (HD 6XX/HD650 200/315.99) vs 21% (HD8XX/HD800S 1100/1399.99 without drop points) vs 36% (HD8XX/HD800S 900/1399.99 with drop points)
Clearly, you don't get percentages, and manufacturing costs are going to be more due to the HD8XX being made and hand-assembled in Germany vs the HD6XX being mass-produced in Ireland/Romania... and how did you come up with $1300 for HD800S, they are $1399... I swear, by next week, people are going to say the HD800S costs $1000...
You get a $200 store credit. Just buy an HD6XX and sell it for ~$180 and you now have your HD8XX for $940.
I mean, Samsung offered $200 accessory credit when I ordered the S21 Ultra. I used that credit to buy the s7 Tablet to sell to further drive down the cost of the S21 Ultra. Last year with the S20, a flood of people were selling galaxy buds live due to a promotion and I believe something similar happened to the Sony XM4 this past holidays.
shenan24Headphones.com doesn't even sell the HD800S anymore and you might have looked at open box pricing. Look at their HD820 new vs open box pricing.
Never the less, the HD8XX after drop points is $900.
When you can use the drop points and the 9 month wait with 100% of money charged on a product with changed tuning is a different story altogether and there are valid gripes there.
c_dubbTo be fair, Sennheiser US site did have the HD800S listed for $1,399, and if their WELCOME10 code worked for that item, it would have been $1,260.
I only found out about the WELCOME10 code from Levant3r when he posted it, but it was already too late to try it since Sennheiser US now lists the HD800S as $1,699 again.
PandaSPUREven at $1260, people complaining apparently aren't buying the HD800S, but want the HD8XX for ~$900.
Technically you get the HD8XX if you are within the first 3000 to order for ~$900 with drop points. Buy something for ~$200 and sell it or use it to buy some gifts for the next holiday season.
As for the balanced XLR cable, I linked somewhere below 7 cables ranging from $37 - $98 for a balanced XLR Lemo Connection cable. The Sennheiser one is 10ft long and quite stiff. Mine has been unused in the box.
c_dubb"Even at $1260, people complaining apparently aren't buying the HD800S, but want the HD8XX for ~$900."
Yea I'm ignoring those people... they basically want the headphones but cant afford it.
"Technically you get the HD8XX if you are within the first 3000 to order for ~$900 with drop points. Buy something for ~$200 and sell it or use it to buy some gifts for the next holiday season."
I get what you mean, but I don't like considering store credit when comparing prices. I honestly dont know what I'd buy with the $200 Drop credit. There is nothing I want that is exactly $200 either, so I will either spend more than $200 in total or have leftover credits hanging around. That's also one of the big reasons retailers like to give credits rather than cash or discounts.
I'd rather have the $200 off in cash so I can go and buy a Schiit Loki to add to my stack.
