I've been using mine since early November 2020 and so far they are holding up fine. However, I do not abuse them and have never dropped them. I typically use them every night after work for about 2-4 hours while playing games and hang them on a headphone hanger when not in use. I have removed and swapped out the earpads numerous times while I was trying out different 3rd party earpads and there have been no problems with the stock earpads or the cups that the earpads attach to.
Overall, I'd say that the headset does NOT have a premium feel to it because it feels like it's all plastic, but it also has no issues, cracks or broken parts either. What it does have is great positional sound and soundstage for the games I play so I can recommend it based on that. Just be careful with them and don't abuse them - like any plasticky product they may have issues if pushed too far. :-) Good luck.
QUICK UPDATE 5/25/21: It's been over 6 months since I started using them and everything is still all good. Works well, no issues.
UPDATE 9/25/21: Still going strong after almost a year. Still sound great, and no issues.
UPDATE 5/16/22: Still going strong with nightly use for gameplay. Still sound great, and no durability issues.
UPDATE 11/09/22: I have hit the the two year mark since I started using this headset and I'm still very happy I made the purchase. I continue to use them almost every day and have encountered zero issues and they still sound great. Thanks to everyone who has used my link to purchase items from Drop - although I can't contact you directly to say thanks, I can collectively say thanks here. So, thanks!
UPDATE 09/21/23: Still using the headset and all is well. No issues and still love the sound. One change - I got new earpads (SOULWIT Cooling Gel Ear Pads for Sennheiser) which I find most comfortable because they move my head further away from the drivers and my ear no longer touches the driver. Considering the PC38X are analog headphones there's nothing really to recognize. You need to troubleshoot the port settings or whatever sound card you're using.
for pc just use a apple dongle type C (and a usb adapter if needed).it will run you 10 to 15$. it powers it completely great, clean, and the mic quality is funny enough better than some more costly options. for Game console like xbox and ps5.. no need.
you can set the mic volume to 90% before hearing any background noise at 50% headphone volume when reviewing your voice. (50% is very very loud.)
xraulbI have a PS5 & if u want to hear the 3d stuff u need an amp, I picked up a Sennheiser GSX 1200 PRO, however the 1000 is exactly the same minus the LAN setup.
domynykDifferent DAC/amps have different quality. For example, my Apple lightning dongle plays back my music and records my voice so much more naturally and clearer than the headphone jack in my iMac.
xraulbI find that I maxed the volume specifically while listening to music so I got the creative x3 at $120. Definitely worth it, I can now max the pc38x now as well as the audio quality is noticeably better with more detail. Also mic quality is much much better at least compared to my onboard audio from an asus tuff mobo.
Joker123dcYeah, it’s important to realize motherboard/mainboard audio has integrated DAC (Digital to Analog Converter) and Amplifier components... you can’t listen to headphones (an analog device) without an Amp and a DAC for any digital audio.
Once you know that, it’s easy to realize that on the spectrum of quality and power quantity, the audio from a motherboard will be on the low end of the audio quality spectrum of what is possible. As you clear the bottlenecks between the headset and source audio, you’ll hear more of the headset’s potential.
xraulbNecessary? on XBOX, The short answer is - No. I use the mix amp from Microsoft that fits on the controller and get great sound and mic quality. It's a loaded question though because it depends on what your expectations are. A good amp will always be an enhancement, but not a necessary one.
JediMindBangYeah, I haven’t tried the Xbox Series controller (yet?), but the amp built-in to the PS5’s Dual Sense controller is noticeably better than the DS4. I found the DS4 to sound below average, but now the DSS has reached an average, passable sound quality that I use sometimes for simplicities sake.
But if you have something better, it’s hard to go back, because you know what you’re missing. The Playstation 4 and 5 can work with any USB Audio Class 1 (UAC1) device, so that opens up a lot of options. Right now, I use a Creative BlasterX G5, and I can confirm the FiiO E10K works too (no mic input, obviously), but I can also confirm that the USB-C Apple dongle sadly does NOT work with the PS5.
No, you don't need an amp. I use these directly connected to the Xbox and PS4 controllers, and get plenty of volume. I own both the PC37X and PC38X and for me, the PC38X is a much better sounding headset, easily worth the increased price. It also comes with extras, and the short cable is perfect for controllers. These should work with just about anything decently. Great headset.
These headphones are amazing for console where the audio drivers are much better. For use with a pc you can use very simple dac. I'm using one from another pair of gaming headphones. The sound is superior to any other gaming headphones. Astros included
no, it doesn´t need one...but a cleaner source will give you a better experience, no doubt. I use the JDSlabs atom stack plus behringer um2, but you could use fulla 3, hel, mayflower ark mk2 ,soundblaster x3/g6 or EPOS gsx300/1000/1200. personaly I would run fulla 3 for its simple package since I do not plan to buy any other headphone, maybe change my setup for the hel, but it would cost a little more time that to achive nothing better, maybe just getting an fulla or g6 for mobile application.
Taquito96Does the GSX 300 work on Playstation? I checked the EPOS website earlier, it doesn't state support and I couldn't see in the specs if it was a UAC1 device. I did check Schiit's site, the current Fulla E lists support for Playstation and Switch. I personally use a Creative G5 with my PS5, but I'll get an upgrade if it ever breaks.
I am running a MacBook pro circa 2018 and the volume is OK in most situations but definitely could use a boost. Compared to my Bose Quietcomfort 25 wired headphones I'd say the volume gets to about 70% of what those do on this laptop. You probably will want a headphone amp for a Macbook (I am in search of a cheap way to boost volume now).
I didn't realize the headphones have a volume control and mine was set to below 1/2 way up when I wrote the above statement. They get much louder and without distortion when raised maybe to 2/3 volume. Above that and they will distort when plugged into my MBP. I'm not sure how I didn't realize the volume on the side of the headphones but it definitely makes a difference and now there's plenty of volume and they easily match the Bose in SPL and far surpass them in SQ.
I've used this both with my schiit hel2, and plugged straight into my work Chromebook's 3.5mm port. For video calls it works either way, though I'm not too picky.
Frankly these are designed with low impedence so they can be driven without an extra amp, etc. try it without, and if you wanna spend the extra $$ for more goodness, then do it. If you're happy without... all good!
TL;DR these phones are great, and super comfortable, I wear them basically alllllll day.
No, the PC38X have an impedance of just 28 ohms, which is quite good for for a pair of headphones to be used on phones and laptops. Amps are required for the 'real' audiophile headphones, like the Sennheiser's HD600s, as they have higher impedance of 300 ohms, and that is only done to achieve the full sound stage and exercise the actual power of the headphones. Adapters can be found anywhere in the market.
EzyRakIt's more significant that it has high sensitivity... impedance matters a bit, but you can drive a 120 Ω Sennheiser HD 560S just fine from a Dual Sense controller, but the 50 Ω Fostex T50RP mkIII sounds really quiet, and obviously doesn't have enough power headroom. The difference? The HD 560S has 110 dB/1Vrms, while the sensitivity of the T50RP is just 92 dB/mW. That's on a logarithmic scale, 20 dB of difference would have been 100x more sound pressure. You actually have to have a powerful enough amp to turn up the volume more for a T50RP than you do for an HD 600 (300 Ω, and 97dB/1Vrms).
These headphones do NOT require an AMP, however there are several YT reviews of them where they state the AMP further improves their already impressive sound quality. I run mine through my ASUS ROG mainboard audio. They are a little quiet for my taste so I run them on "extreme". I am going to purchase the Drop 789 THX amp soon.
No, but with an amp they will only get better because of the dynamic headroom the amplifier would give you. Mine run on my Xbox elite series 2 controller just fine.
sup dude, I watched on youtube a video of Hardware Canucks using the PC37X with shiit Fulla, Shiit Hell and another Dac/Amp (2 in one) and the mic sounded the best with the Shiit Hell, the PC38X shouldnt be that different from the PC37X, cheers!
Make sure you have the cable pushed all the way into the earcup. I had a similar problem and was surprised at how strongly I had to push the cable into the earcup in order to get a full connection. Good luck.
My motherboard is an MSI X570 Tomahawk WIFI with Realtek ALC1200, is it going to be enough?
Does anyone use them with DAC/AMP? Is it really worth investing in Schiit Fulla 3 100$?
I also have a cheap Apple Type C to 3.5mm DAC, is it going to sound better than my motherboard soundcard?
