Anyone use the pc37x or pc38x hooked directly up to the xbox or ps4/5 controller? Don't laugh but going open back so I can hear if my baby wakes up while gaming, lol. the contingency plan is to use a fiio headphone amp to give them some juice if the controller DAC is too weak.

I just got them yesterday and tried them this morning. Both channels are working, but very quiet imho. I can’t hear barely any footsteps. I know they made these at 28ohms, but can’t hear anything close to what I should.

Gotcha, that’s what I was afraid of... Thanks a ton for the info! I’ll get my amp ready- was hoping I wouldn’t have to mess with extra wiring but would rather have punchy audio.

What are you going with? I don’t wanna have to add anything else either, but I really want these to perform to their fullest potential. I was considering a Schitt stack. Magni 3+ and Modi. Then Y splitter with the mic to the controller. Heard this works. I’m on Xbox so I have to use an optical input. I really want a Arc Mk2 but it doesn’t have an optical input.

Haha your setup is way better than mine. I’m on Xbox series x so it doesn’t have optics which seriously sucks for audio equipment. don’t laugh but this is my current setup: I have a 3.5mm to rca cable going from the Xbox controller to a fiio k5 amp that I use with fiio x7 Mark ii DAP. Currently driving HD6XX’s while waiting on the PC38x. things get even more messy if I’m playing online games with the mod mic. Audio cables EVERYWHERE! Lol.

Lolol. Hilariously I almost went with the 58xx and a mod mic! But decided to just do the 38’s. But now I’m bummed I’m gonna have to add a DAC/Amp in the mix. Unless I’m missing a setting or something. Ugh.

Yeah same here! There’s something to be said for having a built in mic on the 38s that are so nice. I’m not too picky about cables and stuff but hate feeling like my desk space is overrun with cords. Lol.

I have. I won’t laugh 😂 It works, but the connection is tight so you will want to make sure it’s plugged all the way in. Also, by default the PS4’s audio settings have the headphone out volume set pretty low. You can add a shortcut to the controller’s volume setting to the quick menu that shows up when you hold the PS button. You won’t get high quality though... the controller’s audio parts are low quality, so it will kinda limit sound quality. Soundstage will be compressed so everything sounds like it’s the same distance from you. But it works, and should be plenty loud!

I totally hear you! Honestly thinking about getting an hdmi optical audio extractor so I can feed the amp with better input. Trying to reason with myself that I don’t need to go overboard for gaming audio lol.

As someone who HAS gone overboard (PS4 with uncompressed 7.1 audio connected with HDMI into a Smyth Realiser A16 for processing, then optical out to a Sennheiser HDV 820 DAC/amp, then Pentaconn 4.4mm balanced out over a silver cable to my HD 800, total system cost around $8000 if bought new), it’s glorious and makes me cackle with glee, but honestly I still get excited about how good PUBG Mobile sounds with just the PC38X plugged straight into my iPad. Those HDMI audio extractors are pretty good! You might also want to check and see if your television has an optical audio return port, maybe you can save a few bucks. You gave me another idea. I have the original FiiO X7 (not the Mark II like you have), I wonder if the USB Audio mode would work when plugged into the PS4? The secret to getting USB DACs to work with the PS4 (and PS5) is that they have to use something called USB Audio Class 1 (sometimes abbreviated UAC1), an older but more widely compatible form of DAC device identification. For example, I know an EPOS Audio GSX 1000 (this used to be the Sennheiser GSX 1000, but the gaming division spun off to be its own company) works with the PS4 (in stereo), so does Creative Labs BlasterX G5 and G6, while the Schiit Audio Hel and Fulla 3 do not work (they’re UAC2) but the Fulla 2 does.

I’m not gloating, I’m just saying I YOLO’d it (over the course of 5 years, with discounts along the way). I sincerely hope you enjoy and have fun!
