Just received mine today - question has the mdloader app been updated to support the SHIFT because I wasn't able to get it work just now. An error along the lines of not being able to find a port.

hiatusSame problem here. You would think that we wouldnt have a problem like this after waiting for so long for this keyboard. Hopefully an update is coming this week.

SheHateMeThanks for that feedback - at least it's good to know it isn't isolated to my copy. I'm also noticing that the keyboard case gets pretty warm with the backlighting on. Not something that I've experienced before with my other keyboards (several generations old ducky shine and a fnatic ministreak tkl). This is also my first experience with a massdrop board. So far it's been a generally positive typing experience (mx browns). Nitpicks: Spacebar has some rattle Some keycaps (esp right alt key) are not aligned completely straight
hiatusDid you hit reset on your keyboard after starting the flashing process with the MDLoader? The SHIFT is supported.

YanboWuI've been having problems flashing as well. When I hit reset, the keyboard disconnects, reconnects, and the lights are still off. After the 60 seconds however, nothing shows up in the program and it just closes itself.
FenyaThis is after you ran the "mdloader_windows.exe --first --download FILE" command? Do you see the below message before resetting your board?

YanboWuYes I do. After advice from Drop_Elbert on discord, it now shows "Error: Could not find a valid device port". Apparently it's a chip ID mismatch?
FenyaVery weird, let me get with our engineers and we'll update once we have more information.

YanboWuYep tried the reset button underneath the board as well as Fn + B without success. Running the loader with the --list argument also returns a no devices found message.

hiatusIt's a device ID mismatch like the CTRL. https://drop.com/talk/9382/how-to-configure-your-ctrl-keyboard/2546661 I have a unit on hand and it had the same issue out of the box. I downloaded the source code (https://github.com/Massdrop/mdloader/releases/tag/1.0.3), edited line 339 (editing line 38 works as well) of the mdloader_common.c file, recompiled it, navigated to the build folder, moved a custom firmware configuration into the same folder, and was able to flash successfully. If you are comfortable doing the above yourself, you can get your SHIFT to flash. If not, you'll have to hang tight while we make the changes.

hiatusFor the sake of others like me while they are trying to find their way to this part of this thread because they have been pulling their hair out from spotty (depending on your level of coding proficiency) documentation on this process, here are some screenshots. Regardless of whether you are running MacOS or Windows, the result will be the same if you are attempting to flash your QMK right now. Didn't have this problem when I flashed my ALT. Searching the web for instructions on how to flash QMK firmware to a drop or any board, third party tutorials are about 99%Windows, 1%MacOS.

Hunting for and then following and/or patching together elements from multiple tutorials with the command line is already stretching it for plenty of people, myself included. Could DROP maybe create a simple GUI that drag&drop/requests the configurator's bin file and does the rest a little more seamlessly? If there is a technical reason for why that is much more complex than it seems to a newb like me, then perhaps DROP could grab some super-newb friends, sit them down with a DROP board fresh out of the box and Feynman Method some detailed instructions by seeing where the current instructions fall short of usable based on the level of detail offered?

SheHateMeOkay, found a workaround another user (marcw11) (created? and/or) posted here (https://drop.com/buy/drop-ctrl-mechanical-keyboard/talk/2662693). His link to modified files for the CTRL did the trick and allowed a successful flashing using [my Mac in bootcamp to run] windows. Credit where it's due, please go thank him for doing this if it works for you as well. You still need to follow the process laid out elsewhere for getting your configuration file from the configurator, adding it to a folder with his modified files, and running the commands in the command prompt.

Sweet. Got mine working using another user's workaround, see other comment. Looking forward to seeing what comes next in this series of input devices.

hiatusmy spacebar and even my backspace (but less) has a lot of rattle, are these stabs already MXs? And what kind of fixes would you recommend?

I believe they are generic stabilizers; actually a few weeks back my spacebar stabilizer broke. I ended up buying a cherry replacement and clipped the stabs while I was at it. It helped with the rattle but did not completely get rid of it. I haven't bothered to go further with lubing and other mods because one of my keys malfunctioned - the female connector that accepts the switch pins collapsed within the chassis so the key is no longer firing. Hoping to get a complete keyboard replacement - haven't had much luck with my Shift.

I replaced my stabilizers right away with plate mount cherry stabilizers and lubed with Krytox 205g0. I also band-aid modded since the stabilizer does hit the pcb. I have no issues since.
