The keycap set is more for sure, but they recoup the cost of the stock caps the Alt usually comes with.
I looked around, their skylight set goes for only $45. These are close to stock Alt keycaps. The difference between the listed mt3 set is then $85. If you add that to the additional cost of HPs and the custom colored case, yeah the cost is all there.
I will annotate my original post, thanks.
Unknown1When I built my last computer in 2013 on a shoestring budget, I got a $10-$15 Roswell keyboard. So I come from your perspective. But, now in 2020, working from home, writing a lot, I’m curious enough to dip my toes in and I have an ENTR keyboard on the way in the mail.
I’ll be sure to leave a post with thoughts.
I have spent more money on a knife...............once. A Kopnosuke Gyuto with a custom handle. Maybe someone can help me understand the reason anyone would shell out this kind of money. I am not a fan of Microsoft, but I have one of their keyboards, a Comfort Curve Keyboard, that I just love. I has survived liquids challenges and semi-solid assaults. It still works. It has a lot more functionality than this one and cost about $40.------------ I just checked the price. Either my memory has failed or I should have bought more than one 10 years ago. The price has more than doubled, but I would still shell out $100 for what I have. The model number doubled from 1000 to 2000. That no doubt accounts for the increase in price. I know that it couldn't be greed on MS's part.
Btw, my ENTR with Gateron Yellow switches just arrived yesterday. So... springy! It’s like it types faster than I’m ready for, I’ll have to practice with it for a bit 😂
I’m wondering if I might’ve preferred the tactile Halo True switches, because right now with the Yellows, I can push a key down like halfway and the keystroke appears on screen, and right now it’s weird to not feel any resistance to match up with the keystroke (other than the springiness). I can type on it very gently though, which is fascinating.
14themoneyNo, that would be due to Covid 19. The demand for EVERYTHING related to computers when people began realizing they could work from home everyone started buying Webcams, mice, new keyboards etc. I personally still have my Logitech c922 Webcam, which I got years ago for $65 brand new. Now if you go to Logitechs website you'll notice the same Webcams (10 year old Webcams...no exaggeration) have gone up in price almost 3 times as much. Which then they are usually sold out in minutes of them restocking and if you check on Ebay you can find your trusty old Webcams and ergo keyboards for 7 times the price they were years ago...they just updated the packaging and maybe added a letter at the end of the model number. (Lookup Logitech c920i c920 c920e c920x....all the same old Webcam. The "E" stands for environmentally friendly packaging...but the average consumer will think oh it must be better than the c920, and buy it.
Weren't the CTRL and ALT PCBs being reworked for PCB-mount switch compatibility? I feel like it would have been a better idea to wait on releasing these until the 5-pin PCBs were ready. Will these also be offered with the updated PCB whenever those become available with the original Drop boards? No hate or anything tbh, these look like really nice boards. Just wish they'd come with 5-pin compat, PCB mount stab compat, and maybe the option to choose different case colors. Other than that these seem like a neat idea.
Damn I didn't know they were still doing this too lol.. It must be they prioritize the per-key rgb over keycap compat. Idk why else anyone would do north facing

It's not ironic considering that the stock keycap set is shine-through. To that end, the default configuration of our CTRL/ALT/SHIFT will never have south-facing switches. That said, a separate, standalone PCBA with south-facing switches is not off the table. The preference for south-facing switch is still largely an enthusiast one, and arguably, our keyboards skew slightly more towards the newcomer end of the spectrum - or at least, its customer base does.
Mine just got delivered, I'd say the stabs arn't great but they are workable. I'm gonna take a day or so with it before I put up a more detailed review. To answer your question tho, I would replace I'm actually looking into the same thing now.
Check out my video here, I show the stabs and sound. My space bar is pretty rattly but intend to either lube it or replace the stabs with authentic cherry stabs...and lube those too lol.
Just replaced my stabs with Zeal PC Authentic Cherry MX plate mount 6.25u space bar (Ordered them right after I got the keyboard) and its already a night and day difference, I diddn't even clip or lube them because I wanted to give them a few days of wear in first so I just threw them in dry but honestly it doesn't even really need it. Def a recommend mod for anyone picking this up, it was about 25 dollar but super easy and actually gives the entire board a feel and more importantly sound of a worthy 350+ keyboard, also no more rattlers!
Its so much better then it was stock, the stabs feel way more solid. I am familiar with that looseness you speak of and was really dis-pointed that it came with the bad stabs for such an amazing looking and otherwise feeling board, I'm so glad this fast and cheap mod completely rectified that issue. The sound and feel of those stock stabs was terrible on another level. I've done all my Zeal 2u's since the last post with a coat of Krytox and they feel amazing before I had just gotten to the spacebar.
The first night I had the keyboard I had nightmare about the sound of the stock stabs (not joking).
Are these hi profile keycaps about as high as the Massdrop x MiTo SA Pulse Custom Keycap Set on the Massdrop x MiTo Pulse CTRL High-Profile Keyboard 2 years back? Anyone?
Also, are these ABS about the same in feel? The MiTo SA Pulse are totally smooth after a year now.

LWNYCThey are about the same in shape. See https://matt3o.com/about-mt3-profile-and-devtty-set/ and https://www.keycaps.info/stack
These are also ABS like SA Pulse, but unlike SA, these have a textured surface. Know that the textured surface will wear down with use and become shiny and smooth. ABS in general will develop surface shine relatively quickly.
Couldn't resist anymore.
Bought this one.
Already have bought previous releases over the years (four or them) and they all had HORRIBLE stabilizers installed.
Hoping and Praying that DROP has finally fixed this issue here once and for all. Otherwise why charge so much for this type of keyboard and continually supply the World's Worst Stabs for their design?
PLEASE Drop, I truly hope you have finally fixed these monumental stab failures, that you are so well known for.
Again, I've tossed some money to see if they have produced a decent keyboard for 2020.
ElrickDoes stabalizers really determine people's decision on a keyboard they're already spending $300+ dollars on? Don't get me wrong, as it is annoying having bad stabs, the fix is very inexpensive (imo) and not difficult to do. Just me two cents.
