Overall, this keyboard is the stout sort and the frame and keycaps have weathered nearly two years of use with nary a problem. Much like the Khazâd, though, it has one weakness - flimsy legs.
One of the plastic kickstands has broken and unfortunately Drop does not offer or sell spares. I expect I'm not the only one who will break a leg before the switches, caps, or case go. It's puzzling that flimsy plastic would be used for the stands if they couldn't be swapped or replaced in the future. If you're kind to your kickstands, this is a great product. But the looming danger of being left kickstandless is you type too deeply is a bit of a Balrog.
My partner loves dwarves in LotR, so I snapped this keyboard up for his birthday/Christmas present. Keyboard has great heft, he likes the typing experience (he came from a chiclet style keyboard), loves the colors + included accent keys—really just a gorgeous piece. Sound is good: satisfying but not too loud. Really, I've got no complaints, save for the fact that there's no numpad (or numpad keys included), but I knew that going in. Would also love to eventually be able to get him a numpad set that has standard numbers, instead of just dwarvish.
Overall, super pleased with the quality, as it made for a spectacular gift. Pre-ordered the Dwarven deskmat for him so he'll have a coordinated setup.
I loved how nice compact and heavy it was the moment I took it out of the box, the only thing that felt kinda strange was the buttons when I swapped them, but in the end it was a very beautiful product a nice clicky sound that is mesmerising…for the people who love clicky keyboards!!!
This was my first mechanical keyboard and it has been a rabbit hole ever since... Thanks Drop for such an amazing design, as a LOTR uber fan, this was a must-have.
I have been using this keyboard since it was released and I love it. The color and quality are perfect. If you're on the fence, I can tell you it's fantastic!
Insanely beautiful and amazing to type on, but with some issues
So I love the aesthetic of the keyboard completely--it is part of the reason I bought it afterall!--and typing on it felt great, and so did gaming on it, however, it had a few issues that made me get a replacement and then just put that replacement on display.
The words/graphics on the keys wore off in 2 days. I feel like that shouldn't happen so soon...!
Several of the keys had broken within a month, with having never even taken a keycap off prior to that point. The plastic hinges or whatever they are called snapped off the space bar, enter and shift keys, and made the keyboad paper weight. I would love to see this addressed in the future.
It was just too beautiful to use
Beyond that, I am extremely pleased with the keyboard. I did initially buy it for a collection, used it temporarily due to a tight spot, but if they can work out the kinks on these keyboards, they are going to be incredible. Also, that overall build quality is INSANE. Heavy as hell, but I love that!
Beautiful keyboard - horrifically bad switches and key caps.
The switches are just awful - non linear, with a catch at the end and zero actuation until they bottom out. They're absolutely awful for gaming, and mediocre at best for typing. The keys also have deep cups, which is just bizarre. It's a real shame, cause it's a beautiful keyboard, but I think the vast majority of users will have to delude themselves into liking the switches/keys.
