Type With an Elvish Touch

Immortal, wisest, and fairest of all beings in Middle-earth, the Elves are a race unlike any other in Tolkien’s work. On the officially licensed Drop + The Lord of the Rings MT3 Elvish Keycap Set, we’re bringing their elegance and mesmerizing script to your keyboard. Instantly recognizable from writings on legendary items such as the One Ring, the script of Tengwar was created by the ancient Elf Fëanor and eventually replaced the runelike Cirth to become the text of choice for Elvish languages such as Sindarin: the language featured on this set. Designed by Matt3o in a subdued-green-and-off-white colorway, its ornate legends are faithful translations of corresponding Sindarin terms and Tengwar characters—and its durable, dye-sublimated PBT build ensures lasting brilliance with an exceptional feel. For those who need a guide, the Training Elvish and Elvish Ortholinear kits feature both Tengwar and traditional legends. For pure Tengwar, check out the Hardcore Elvish, Elvish Extras, Autumn in Rivendell, and Evenstar Kits.

Add-on Drop + The Lord of the Rings Wrist Rest

In Middle Earth, there is no bigger hoarder of treasure than the dragon Smaug. For our first release with The Lord of the Rings—a pair of handcrafted wrist rests—we could think of no better inspiration. Equal parts typing tool and eye-catching jewel, each one is meticulously crafted and vividly colored with handmade attention to detail. Both are worthy of Smaug’s hoard, and both feature the dragon himself. Plus, each one is shaped with a typing angle between 7 and 9 degrees for optimal comfort. Choose the menacing Eye of Smaug or the ornate Smaug’s Lair to complement your style—and select a 65% or TKL to fit your setup.

Add-on Drop + The Lord of the Rings Artisan Keycap

Throughout its nearly 5,000-year lifetime, the One Ring traveled to many corners of Middle-earth. In this official collaboration with The Lord of the Rings, we’re commemorating a select few of them in a set of artisan keycaps masterfully handcrafted by our friends at Dwarf Factory. Perhaps the most renowned is Mount Doom: the Ring’s first and final resting place. There, sitting atop a bed of lava, the Ring shows its true nature by revealing the language of Mordor engraved on its surface. Next is Anduin: the longest river of the Third Age, on whose bed the Ring lay in wait for several millennia after the first defeat of Sauron and the death of his foe, Isildur. Eventually, the Ring was discovered by Smeagol, taken by Bilbo, and passed to Frodo, who journeyed with it to the enchanted land of Lothlórien, where it famously tested the elven queen, Galadriel. Choose from these three legendary locations, and bring the One Ring to a keyboard in your collection.

Question
Why not have the elvish characters match up with the equivalents in our alphabet? What is the point other wise if they're going to be placed at random where they were thought to "look" best?

They weren't placed for show, they were placed to align with a specific Elven font for ease of typing. Matt3o has a few blog posts about his reasoning behind the character placement over on his site.Read More

Question
Couldn't they have made the legends transparent? Nothing says elvish like a bright light shining through the elvish text. They are double shot anyway -- for me this is a missed opportunity, and I don't like the color choices either.

They're not double shot, the ad copy is incorrect and they haven't fixed it everywhere yet. It's dye-sub. Making double shot molds for Elvish legends would make it prohibitively expensive.Read More
