Excellent with Focal Elex
EDIT: After several days of listening the amp now pops uncontrollably. Fully balanced setup pops, SE pops, I'm extremely disappointed. When the amp is working as intended my below review is accurate. However, after less than 100 hours of use, these issues are inexcusable. EDIT 2: After some trials and tribulations I got a replacement unit. Drop support was fantastic. The unit works flawlessly without any popping. I'll raise my review to 4 stars as my defective unit hints at quality control issues possibly. This was an upgrade from the CTH. There is no comparison. The 789 produces a clean, uncolored sound that is truly revealing. Your source will be extremely important as bad recordings will have noticeable distortion and irregularities. At first the amp sounds thin, almost veiled, but a closer listen will show that it reduces the noise floor considerably allowing the listener to hear the finer details of whatever they are listening to. Running fully balanced is the way to go for me because there is a ground loop in my system. Running off the balanced output reduces the noise floor considerably compared to the SE output. I highly recommend this amp if you have the source material for it. If you have a collection of poor quality recordings, this amp is not for you.

You should probably talk to support. You may have a defective unit.
