I read Cee_Tee’s recent comments that a separate DAC in a matching enclosure is coming... so I am rooting for a higher-end Massdrop x Grace Design DAC, with both SE and balanced XLR connections. It would be great if the DAC could act as a preamp (i.e. - volume control) for the XLR outputs, as that would help with my Yamaha HS-8 powered monitors.
If you need volume control in the short term, have you considered a passive monitor controller? Using a NOS McONE-B here, and it has worked wonderfully.
The only things I would improve are: I would prefer a detented knob, and the switch for dim/norm/mute should really be norm/dim/mute in my opinion.
Yeah, that would be slick.
I will check that out and compare it to the Mackie Big Knob controller.
I am actually considering a Goldpoint balanced level control, like the SA2X or SA2XM (see www.goldpt.com).
Depends if you really care about literally matching components.... Otherwise buy a Black DX7S and don't look back!
That would be good, as would a Massdrop x Benchmark DAC!
Not really, but it sounds like a matching DAC is already being designed. Perhaps Massdrop x Topping or Massdrop x Aune.
