Just my luck.
Drop ends in 5 days, payday is in 6 day. Massdrop knows exactly how to time it so I miss the drops I'm interested in. It's a conspiracy I tell you! 😉
Use a card and then pay the card off when you are paid...
Normally I would, but card are of limits at the moment.
Closed my business a year and after 6 month not working am working play time for the last 6 months. So padding of debt is part of whay o.k. doing now, with the occasional gear purchase.
I actually should get oasis tomorrow instead of Friday, according to the boss. But outs such a long wait I've decided to get something else instead this time and look at this at a future drop.
The list of items wanted a large, the back account small. Such is life.
I would recommend an o2Amp as its great for a budget and can drive most every headphone.
Haha, it's not for lack of gear. I have three DAC/AMPS (Audio-GD NFB-11,R2R 11 & Nufotce uDAC3) on my desk and a stand alone amp by Garage1217 (Project Polaris).
It's curiosity really. I want to see for me how much of a difference there really is.
I should start giving reviews and impressions as I have a good amount of audio gear already. Not to mention the stuff I want to try. 😁
I would like to try an O2 & ODAC. Say it's all you need, but I have several planar magnetic headphones so I think is disagree.
My o2 drives my planars just fine.
also sell the audio gd stuff.... Amir from ASR just proved how badly it measures lol.... Could buy a massdrop sdac and it would outperform audio gd flagship products.
That's ok. I'll trust my ears over some ones else's measurements. TO me it sounds good and better than what else I've tried. My ears are so far pleased, and as it's my ears that need to be pleased, and not anyone else's.. I'm good for now.
As I get some more gear to try, if I like it better it can replace my R2R 11 as my primary. I have several unites on my list to try.
Pro-Ject Pre Box S2 Digital DAC looks like a great DAC according to Amir's reviews. Might have pair it up to this amp if it sounds as good as what I heard at RMAF last year at the THX booth.
This is the kind of stuff that perks my curiosity.
Once I get a few more quality DACs (DAC/AMPs) in my hands I give a listen and see how much of a difference there really is. I now have gear that will make A/B-ing different DACs as well as different AMP possible.
There's what yo can measure and there's what you canactually hear, they don't always correlate (of course this can very a bit from person to person). I'm mostly concerned with what I can actually hear.
It's going to be interesting and squeeze my already tight finances, LOL!
Yes, alot of the time people find "euphoric" sounds actually are distortions in the high frequencies and they think it sounds better when in fact it sounds worse!
Worse is a subjective opinion. You can't decide what sound someone else likes. You can think I worse other may think it just different. They may like different. After all if I like it, it not "worse" to me.
Some people like tubes and the distortion they produce. At I first I only wanted solid sate amps, now over times I want to try some tubes to see what they can do with my HD600 & HD650s.
Most of us listen for enjoyment not professional music producing. Sometimes I want a "correct" sounds others I might want something more fun or "euphoric". We are allowed to enjoy both or chase something different.
its true that some people prefer distortions, I mean obviously people spend money on tube amps which are objectively inferior.
But there is little reason to have your DAC be inferior when you can adjust the sound with amps or DSP.
Well, once I can compare more DACs I can give a more informed idea of what the differences are. In my experience thus far it's very subtle.
I really wonder how much "better" those really expensive DAC can really be.
What is a "Good" measuring DAC I can perhaps get for my comparisons?
For a low price? Massdrop SDAC, Topping D10, Topping D30, SMSL M8, JDS OL DAC, JDS ODAC. Those are all under $200 or can be found at $150 or less.
D10, SDAC and D30 are all $120 or less.
OL DAC I think is $150 and the ODAC is around the same price.
The D30 and A30 are on my short list. I've just been reading on the D50 that may be an option also. But still I'll have to wait from the next drop as I'm about to pull the trigger on a pair of used headphones tomorrow.
Have you received the 789? How do you think it compares with the r2r11 ?
Yeah I know about the measurements being wack, just wondering what @RojasTKD opinion is after listening to both. Trying to decide between the 789 + D10 or the R2R11 for my first setup (with the 650 & 4xx), the R2R11 in my situation is almost 200$ cheaper which is okay if the audible difference is actually that big.
Ah alright, just figured I would let you know.
Sorry, I've had other expenses and audio taken a back seat.
I'll get around to it eventually..
