I'm new to the audio world. Current have se846 and AK70 mk2 as my set up. Looking at Schiit Jotunheim for my desktop set up while still using my SE846. Since I wouldn't want my listening to be further colored, i'm guessing this unit would be a good fit for me. Just a question, will it damage my SE846 though?

Yes, we've carefully designed the 789 to be an excellent fit for sensitive IEMs like your SE846's. That includes eliminating the click/pop on turnon/turnoff, and adding a new -10dB gain setting in which no more than 630 mV can go to your IEMs to avoid overdrive (assuming 2V DAC).

Will this change in gain make this amp clip on input with DACs of higher voltage XLR out like the RME ADI-2 (+7 to +19 dBu) or Benchmark DAC 3 (7.5 to 27.5 dBu)?

Hi RynoW. The 789 is compatible with those high voltage DACs. The 789 In 0dB and -10dB modes can tolerate up to +19.5 dBu input without clipping.
RME ADI-2 is fine at any setting +7 or +19dBu max.
Benchmark DAC3 attenuating jumpers should be set to -10dB position (+17 dBu max).

Didn't someone ask THX if the design was finalized at the end of the last drop and was told it was finalized and there would be no changes? I could care less about iem's and am running an RME ADI-2 dac.

You'll be ok! Your RME ADI-2 dac set to +19dBu XLR output is a perfect match to the 789 at 0dB gain. And please realize, many people love their IEMs! The new -10dB gain setting is a killer feature for those. The old gains were 0/+12/+18 dB. But we had a number of requests for an IEM setting, and the +18dB gain was pretty useless unless a person had a 1V DAC. So we adjusted the new gains to -10 / 0 / +10 dB. This still allows full voltage/power for all 2V and higher DACs. And the -10dB setting permits IEMs to have larger volume knob usable range.

OK now I get it. +18dB gain was pretty useless unless a person had a 1V DAC. So we adjusted the new gains to -10 / 0 / +10 dB. This still allows full voltage/power for all 2V and higher DACs. And the -10dB setting permits IEMs to have larger volume knob usable range.
