Curse slow shipping! It took 1.5 days to move 1.5 hours closer to me, and now the expected delivery date is 5 days later than the original projection. I really would willingly pay more for less terrible shipping.
I must be in the minority as MD has always been good with shipping to me from NJ (I'm in OH). Oddly enough, my orders usually arrive a day earlier than posted. With our USPS hub, they do some Fedex deliveries so I tend to get them at the time of normal mail delivery.
That's pretty standard with the FedEx SmartPost (or whatever it's called). The actual delivery comes from USPS. I think there's just logistics issues (traffic delays, etc.) with this type of shipping that make it less reliable the farther you are from the origin leading to the types of things I complain about.
It makes sense, but that doesn't make a 5 day change in delivery projection any less annoying.
I don't think I will be able to complain about the shipping next year, though, since I'll be in Northern Virginia instead of Idaho. It should be nice and quick.
Ah, well that makes more sense. Typically when I use Fedex, they use 3rd party contractors for their expedited shipping so I was shocked when I got my packages from the mailman. Amazon is odd about this too but they seem to cater that more around package size. But I can understand your perspective. Bloated and delayed ship times are never any fun especially for something like this.
I have the itch so bad I'm heading home during my lunch break to setup and test the amp in my office :)
Also, I fibbed. Checked the tracking for this one and it came out of PA. Either way, it seems shipping could be catered for us East Coast folks.
This. Please give us shipping options so that the customers can choose a shipper we know won't cause problems on our end of the shipment. Fedex is the worst of my local shipping options, and SmartPost just makes it worse.
This is certainly not the first time this request has been made on Massdrop, but I have not seen any indication that they are going to change their stripes on it.
I'm sure there's a very logical reason for why they don't give the option, I just wish they would share it. I'm guessing the additional logistic burden is not worth the hassle for them. It's much easier to break apart a large shipment of items into smaller containers slap a label on each of them and send them all to the same shipping organization than to handle the variations.
There are a couple of weird bits in the route from Massdrop to me with Fedex Smartpost. In one spot, it takes multiple days to move a short distance. In another part of the route, the package will usually leave and return to one of their shipping centers multiple times before moving on. Finally, they don't actually hand packages for my address over to USPS. This is particularly frustrating when the package gets here in time for Saturday delivery, but Fedex refuses to give it to USPS, so I wait until at least Monday or Tuesday for it. Often the Fedex drivers pretend they attempted a delivery when they didn't (my address is a mailbox at a UPS store -- when I get a "resident was not home" during business hours, I know they didn't even try). This is about to play out yet again for my THX AAA 789, which Fedex tracking currently says will be delivered by the end of the day on Saturday 10/27. I won't see it until some time next week.
I've noticed that too - while Massdrop shipping has been slower than I'm used to with Amazon (typically 7-8 days vs. 2-3) they sometimes beat their estimated delivery date by a day.
I run into one of those oddities too. For some reason it shows up in Salt Lake City, UT and sits for a day or so, then goes all the way from Salt Lake City to North Salt Lake (15minutes away) and sits for another day before finally heading to Idaho. It's beyond enraging. I could drive down to Salt Lake City in about 4 hours, but I'm sure they wouldn't let me just pick up my package...
I find it rather vexing that they use the absolute cheapest and potentially worst shipping options on the market. It'd take almost nothing to add FedEx 2nd day air or USPS Priority. They already do it for the "in stock" items.
Been saying this for a long time. But clearly MD has its collective heads so far up their asses that they don't get that some of us don't want our items *bounced* around from the east coast to west coast on a truck, then rattled around even more as it goes into the USPS system for delivery.
Smartpost is fine for T-Shirts and other low cost items, but it doesn't cut it for electronics.
Shipping just got delayed 1 more day. Likely so that they can deliver it, only 5 days behind the original schedule so they look like heroes for beating the current one...
The epic tale of shitty shipping goes on! It arrived in my city on Saturday afternoon. Monday afternoon it was checked-in to the local FedEx facility and an hour or two later shipping information was sent to USPS. Today (Tuesday) it was finally handed over to USPS, but not in time to be delivered, of course. Tomorrow, maybe it will finally be delivered...
If you're doing the math, you're right, it did take 1 full business day to move from FedEx's hands to FedEx's hands within the same facility. How do these people stay in business?
