Listening to it right now and it really is powerful and transparent.
Pairing it with SDAC and HD6xx, it is not just a more powerful O2, it is many leagues ahead.
It should sound exactly the same as the O2, which is easily audibly transparent.
The Bass part was most different. It had more Oomph.
And the sound is more lively.
I know and also thought it was going to be a more powerful O2 but I am hearing audible differences.
Some people here already said they there were no differences from O2 but I am waiting to see if there are people hearing any difference.
Not possible, obviously the placebo effect.
I will try again tonight.
I was thinking... if there is a difference, could it be because the movie and songs I listened to was of low quality and maybe this amp is doing something the O2 wasnt.
Will see how it goes tonight.
Placebo effect or not, if you think you are hearing a difference then you are, its your unit, enjoy it.
Ok, so I tried listening to the same song over and over again.
I am very happy with the AAA, and at the same time I am also very proud to be an O2 amp owner.
Listening to the same song and I am still feeling that there is a difference.
The O2 sounds a slight bit warmer compared to the AAA.
Another thing I feel is that while O2 appears to have a slight reverb in the song, AAA does not seem to have it that much.
The song is called, I am not sure if you are a fan of Korean music but there is this song called "Shot by a bullet" by Baek, Ji-Young.
At the intro, it is pure voice and that is where I feel the O2 sounds a tad bit warmer.
Then then few seconds later the instruments start and O2 has a bit more reverb.
Placebo effect, it may be.
This specific song which is a CD Rip I took several years ago, some amps make her voice harsh.
It is good that this amp made me again spend time listening to music and watch movies more.
Depending on which cans are being used there can be a very obvious audible differences between the two. If he's using HD 6 series Senn's, for example, the O2 can't drive their V needs so the bass impact will be softer and the high end won't be as open/airy as what should be able get with the 789 based on the specs.
These people will never listen. They think just because something is playing loudly, it's being driven properly. We both know this can be the furthest thing from the truth. What kills me is how they leave out that the 02 tends to have more distortion in the real world than what specs say. Especially in the lower regions. The 789 has no such issue and delivers nothing but clean power no matter the volume or headphone. The 02 cannot state or do that. it's a good budget amp but people should stop acting like it's still a benchmark. If anything, with THX partnering with so many others now, I am excited to see more of this tech trickle into other devices. I'm personally waiting on a portable THX amp/DAC that I hope can deliver clarity like the 789 in a smaller, less-powerful package.
Portable 789? Yes, Please! Granted I'm still waiting to receive mine, but from the reviews so far, I'm ready to say I'll take it.
I may have to look into what the module costs and how to use it. I've been formulating a power beast portable amp that I might be able to incorporate it in. I want to see if I can build something that will actually drive 650s that can be taken on the road...
This is the one that has my attention: https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=24460. I was doing some reading the other night to learn more about the tech and how they're spreading it around the industry and it all looks good. Finally some momentum gained in the portable SS camp that doesn't involve bluetooth or going balanced. This is the only unit I can find but I think we'll get more options in the future as this tech trickles out more and more.
That guy looks promising. Maybe if I ever get some IEMs that I want to keep using I'll have to get one of those to go with it.
No, this is literally impossible.
Right. Your subjective opinion trumps mine. Both of them have already been measured so we have objective measurements for both units. The THX is cleaner and offers lower distortion everywhere (especially in the low end). That alone attributes to a noticeable increase in SQ. Do you even own either of these two amps and have listened to them with your own ears? It sure sounds like you haven't and yet are telling someone else what they're hearing. That's pretty asinine.
I stand corrected! How could I have been so wrong in my understanding of how amps move charge and the affects that has on magnetic fields? Thank you for correcting my misunderstanding.
How much did this amp cost?
$350 on the first 2 drops. Who knows where it will go from there though.
