Or spend $150 more for a Jotunheim that has more power and a balanced DAC module. Anyone who says they can hear the difference between 0.000x% and 0.00x% is caught in an audiophile forum-created feedback loop of snake oil and wallet oneupmanship.
I'd buy Modi3 Magni 3 if I wanted to save money. Jotunheim output impedance is laughable.
I went with the stack myself.
I prefer my modi multibit to my topping D50. modi has much better sound stage, seperation, and an overall more immersive presentation. I am leaning towards the 789 vs my asgard 2 when using balanced on my he-400i. The 789 has much more pronounced treble than my other amps, but does not become shrill like my magni 3. Schiit might be garbage to you and others who only put stock in measurements, but to those of us who listen for our impressions instead of reading to form them I believe can and have found very nice audio equipment from schiit. Do you own any or ha e you spent time listening to any schiit components or is your opinion based solely on audiosciencereview’s measurements?
You are delusional. Schiit products have garbage performance so they cannot possibly sound better.
Thanks for proving my point :)
I have a Mimby and Modi 2, that had a curious issue with Mimby. It developed a hiss in the left channel in my HD650 that immediately went away after it was rebooted but still. I shouldn't have to reboot my DAC to clear up noise that shouldn't be there. The Magni has been a champ so far but I'm debating getting a SDAC from here for a backup to see if it suffers from a similar problem and if I should just get used to turning my equipment off and on again.
I would send the unit in for repair. They are pretty good about customer service at schiit.
I've thought about that too, but I'm trying to figure out if others had this issue/if it would be a waste of time and money or if it would really solve the problem. It only happened maybe once or twice and after being left on for months. Plus, it's just frustrating to be without a good DAC for a while since that's how I have my HD650 connect to my TV audio in lieu of a big speaker system. I'll probably send it in sooner or later though.
I understand where you are coming from about down time being a drag. If it only happened once or twice it could have been some other factor like power line noise, but its strange it was only out of one channel. Could have been a fluke glitch and might not happen again. I leave my unit on all the time as well and have not had any issues yet.
Sure thing, champ. Good point.
you can actually just spend $100 more and buy the THX788 with more up to date aKM 4493 dual mono dac off Monoprice when it's back in stock.
Edit: Or buy that cheap Aune S6!
It has never been in stock. They keep delaying it.
it says out of stock at the moment. has nobody pre-ordered it?
This is common, I've had to reboot my old mimby every so often.
Problem here.. With the Monoprice it is a DAC/Amp combo - it is significantly less powerful. This is a dedicated amp and wickedly powerful to boot. I like my DAC to be a separate unit so this appeals to me greatly.
Sorry man but the Jotunheim distorts sound. Look at the FR graph for it.
