how would a Schiit Ragnarok compare to this? I will pay the extremely high cost just to have good amp that won’t be sold out when I wake up.

DraeftloreRaggy is pretty nice. I know people who don't like it as much as THX. Take a look at the Headamp GSX Mini or SPL Phonitor. But of course only if you have headphones that justify it. Don't spend $2K on an amp for some 6XXs or something of that league.

CokemanI’m currently in debate on what headphone I want. Currently in audeze’s line up I’m thinking on an LCD-2 with the 2019 fazor, LCD-X, or a LCD-3. Also going to be looking for MQA files and a good renderer because I’m curious if mqa actually sounds better when fully rendered compared to a normal FLAC file. That is neither hear nor there. Just a curiosity I have.

DraeftloreLCD-X is really bad. 2F and 3 are decent enough but overpriced as hell, only buy them used. MQA is trash, it is lossy and throws off the pitch of the song.

Usehername(In no particular order) Audeze LCD-2F (only buy used), Focal Elex, used ZMF Eikon or Atticus, used TH-900, Hifiman Ananda, used HD800. (All of those should be under $1K)

kimdeugNot a fan of the 1990. Treble is way too much and a dip in the mids.

CokemanSeems like we have different preference. I like my LCD X, HD800S, DT1990, Elex etc. Not a fan of tube amps, I like solid states and more analytical listening style. You can see my gears under my profile pictures. I spent 3 hours in the shop checking side by side between LCD2, LCDX, LCD3, LCD4, ended up buying LCDX as the best for my ears.

kimdeugLCD-X is such a gamble. Audeze driver consistency is terrible. Almost all the LCD-X are stupid trash. But every once in a while you get that’s one golden pair. 1990 not very good though. That is such a noob recc. And those stupid enough to believe Zeos:

CokemanHa Ha. I only trust my ears, but like to watch Zeos, because his performance is hilarious. We are mastering audio and video on the main TV channel in New Zealand as video/audio engineers. And all of our team are using mostly DT1990 and LCDX.

CokemanSorry for "nooby recommendation", but I have seen a lot of critics and comments from you on the other posts. Just try to estimate your level of expertise and recommendations given, based on your Massdrop profile. I have recommended the gears which I have own personally and used them at least 1000 hours. You can see my gears from my profile pictures. While when under your profile I can see only 6xx. Nothing personal, but I have a lot of disagreements with your opinion, based on my practical daily experience. Regards, Kim

DraeftloreIf you’re willing to spend the bucks, then get the Neurochrome HP-1. It equals or betters the 789 measurement wise and has superior build quality. Fully balanced too and meticulously handcrafted by one guy in the USA. But it will cost you - $1250. You can see why the 789s are so popular. Other-dimensional value for money.

CokemanYeah I'm going to write you off. There is no such thing as a lossless file. All digital files are approximations of the analogue source that they came from. There is no such thing as lossless, there is only more accurate file codecs. MQA comes in a FLAC container, but MQA is the codec. There have been people that have tried MQA and say it is better. I intend to find out for myself.

mensreaThanks I will keep it in mind. If I can get into a drop before I can afford a more expensive amp I will do it, but with how fast it sold yesterday I am in doubt I ever will be able to.

DraeftloreDon't take Cokeman's comments seriously. Seems like we have, in this case, another '' Virtual Professor''. Paraphrase someone's words: '' Show me your gear, and I will say who you are.'' This man creates a lot of misleading and confusions with his comments on the other posts too. It has pissed me off. Finally I have checked his profile and everything becomes clear, which person we are dealing with . Just for fun, check his profile and his gears :)))

CokemanThat's why I went with 770 Pros that are warm, with great bass and awesome soundstage (see Metal571 and Z Reviews) . . . A great affordable alternative to the Audeze line of cans, though, is the Monoprice Monolith M1060C (note especially: Z Review, together with DMS / DMS buy-guide and Nitpicker). They're amazing, and I picked up a pair at B&H Photo (but at their $240 December sale price).

chauvelin2000I would be lying if I didn't say the M1060c intrigued me because of the good reviews I have seen. Though I would probably 3D print a "fazor" array for it and get some dekoni pads for the LCD series and attach them. 3D print a open back grill and get some decent foam to protect the drivers. Also seen a mod to attach a audeze headband to them also. :P

DraeftloreDekoni pads would be awesome, and it seems like Zeos had a contact in Europe custom-make grills for these as mods. They definitely have to improve the janky headband. The sound is amazing though, and despite the headband, they're very comfortable and I can wear these for hours without head or ear fatigue. :)

chauvelin2000I have my own plans if I do go that route. I would personally love to get a miniDSP ears and mod the ever loving hell out of a pair of M1060c headphones. I have nothing but free time on my hands so modding a planar and 3D printing waveguide after waveguide to perfect the sound is something I can do. Could potentially see selling the service in the future as well. Lol

Draeftlore I have bought second hand Pioneer SE-205 (10$) just because of headband. So, try to install this headband on my Monolith 1060C. Tried with 3D printed fazor, but result was unclear (no difference, even worse). I think because of closed back nature I need to re-modify the fazor as Mr Speakers one in Either flow model. If someone has drawing of 1060C Fazor ( CAD, Solidwork etc) i will be highly appreciated.

DraeftloreThanks. Yes you are correct. but this has been designed for open back. I still prefer the closed back, and used my own drawing for Fazor. I think I need investigate what Dan has done with Mr Speakers Either. But I dont have it on hand now. After 25 February I will receive the Either CX from massdrop and will look inside.

Ether CXs are based on the Ether C style not the Ether C flow so there isn't a wave guide. I was looking into the Ether CXs because it sounds like a tremendous value for 800 or 900 USD you get something that is near to a $1500 headphone that MrSpeakers doesn't make anymore.
