For those who are wondering how it was out so quick, The sell started at 19. 10 or so in EU and ended around 20.20 and the mail was send at least 30-45 minutes late. There was a small opening and most of the forums were posting about the drop. I guess only the crazy ones spamming the f5 and lucky ones get it. PS: 15k people are waiting to buy and only 500 units so not weird at all.

LisasonictowerI had 17% battery and in a car (passenger) & had 4G even though we were going through a forest/national park area. Was supposed to be home ready for the drop but it was nearly an hour early. i kept refreshing the page 😂 every so often. Ive waited so long as ive been wanting one since last year but each time it drops its GONE or the timing just isnt on my side. I missed the last one in February by mere mins. Just glad i now have one so i can 1: review it & 2: use it as my reference amp for headphones & 3: enjoy it!!. Import is gonna shaft me but hey thats in a few months time lmao.

RathsWell the stars aligned and the heavens opened for you.....finally lol. Patiently await god knocking on the door now, then place the box on the table, open it up to be blinded by the bright light inside with the choir harmonising. I only discovered massdrop 2 days after the last drop had finished in Feb. Checking back daily for any potential updates then came yesterday’s 24hr notice and as far as I was concerned that is when the drop was live 🤩. Refresh all the time then talked myself into it’s coming at 7pm and stopped checking, managed to only look every 30 minutes just in case, checked randomly and it was live still showing 2099. Yeah import sucks but but absolutely worth it. Enjoyment is top priority for myself too. I only have 58X 4XX SE215 to listen to. I have to mcguiver the 4XX at the moment, old school technics integrates amp headphone out into Fiio A3 to get them driving decently 😂. I don’t have a balanced cable for them for the Fiio Q1 markii but I doubt that is sufficient either to drive them. As as for more oddball set up, my DAC is the mpow Bluetooth receiver which shall be feeding my pioneer DJM 600 mixer and balanced out into the 789. So many miss the point of audio and equipment, it’s a hobby and should bring enjoyment to oneself. All I hear is measurements yada yada yada. Ya know 🤪

LisasonictowerYeah haha & massdrop is great not just for audio equipment i have the 6XX atm but when the 789 is here will get the 58X & take the foam out, im waiting on the beyer 199x collab since they made the 177x the 199x are coming!!. I actually sold my DJM 900 nexus not too long ago, i did DJing/home mixing for a bit but my main stuff is streaming/yt & loving music so didnt have a huge time for it. Im pairing my 789 with the SU-8 DAC Not gonna use it balanced tho as i have my two professional studio Monitors (KRK V8S4) as balanced, use a JBL nanopatch+ passive balanced controller to mute/unmute Monitors as RCA/XLR play at same time). Then i will use the 789s pass through for my Schiit magni (using the pre amp) for my 2 SVS PC 2000 Subwoofers. I wanted an all in one system. I can set the knobs are use the remote & also use the knobs to tweak the sound. I wanted it so that i have a dedicated volume knob for the Subs but that i could also use the remote that controls both subs & monitors at the same time. Having a dedicated sub knob is great for different types of music/movies etc & if i didnt want sub since i have 8" Monitors that hit 29hz on their own i can just turn the magni to 0. Sorry for the long comment xD

RathsIt’s ok lol, I’ve read your set up many times and understand the concept and set up pretty well. Eventually I shall do something similar but my current situation limits me to headphones only unfortunately. The mixer will perform a similar function for a sub using the booth monitor output for volume control, if I wished for dual subs I have a promitheus passive TVC which has dual outputs but unsure about sub connections whether they take left right rca or mono. It’s way down the road anyway. Then use the RCA master out to an amp and speakers or powered monitors. Even as I’m typing this my wiring plans change constantly with different ideas of potentials. I’m no pro DJ either, just enjoyed the “bedroom DJ” side of things which in the moment you’re the best in the world😂. Likewise I haven’t used them in 3years all my audio stuff is packed away for now. Nexus is nice, back in 05 I had the 800 and vinyl, sold those then bought CD decks and the 600, toatally backwards way to do things. Always wished for the KRK’s and 29hz is probably enough without the subs. 🙌

LisasonictowerHaha my bad, had to explain my setup a few times & few people seem to like my idea which i love. Always low to make unique setups. Most subs are Right channel for LFE but dont qoute me on it. going off my SVS sub is right channel LFE. Thats also what i did for awhile when i had my 900nxs mixer, had my monitors for Monitors while yours is sub and i had one of the 4 channels for my sub 😂 2/3 where CDJs & 1 was sub & i love SVS subs mine go to 16hz!! So bass is plenty 500W RMS each and 1100w peak, since its dual sub they work together so in reality as SVS on their site puts it its 1000w and 2200w peak 😅 i would of bought a PC 4000 but i couldn't justify the cost & is structural murder BUT i basically got an open box PC 2000 that was £200 off retail with a manufacturer warranty Yeah i love the KRK V8S4 had to get the 8" as they were a tad more than the 6" but bring a lot more to the table bought them when they came out in the EU from thomann, had to get them in white! 230w and 118db of pure audio as the frequency graph is 😍 Yeah i mainly bought the DJ gear for home mixing & parties (mostly EDM, techno/acid techo but also bass house etc. Im a fan of most genres) but after awhile with streaming & youtube i couldn't consistently keep practicing, so ended up selling my gear (had 2000nxs CDJs & djm 900nxs mixer, was gonna buy an RMX 1000 but no time) i was also gonna try vinyl but too much time Decided to sell & put money in other places.

RathsWell they just don’t understand, probably from the camp of, you need a dac and an amp and must be wired balanced and anything out of that box is wrong and not going to work but it will get you by for now lol. By going complicated actually makes life way simpler and easier and generally a better end sound. I approve 🎛🎚🔊🎧 Very nice things you have and have had, I’m not envious at all 🤢🤪.

LisasonictowerI meant a few people liked the idea of it & a few were like why xD but its for my studio so I wanted it all in one! & its end game for me with SU-8 & 789 its also gonna be my reference for YT vids/streams & reviews. Had to put reviews on hold for awhile xD as i stream doing them & just for solid amp endgame i haven't started on tubes yet probs only get one or two like the dark voice or little dot mkiv/bottlehead crack im not a huge tube fan but for some headphones it makes all the difference 🤷🏻‍♂️ Rest of this year is headphones & Yeah its a complicated system as such but its basically an all in one, i used to have two separate systems & use voicemeter but theres input lag & other things that just didnt make it super effective. & All comes with work i suppose being in the right genre as you may say. xD & dont worry i break my bank for my love of tech/Audio equipment 😅 its not an endless supply sadly

RathsNever used tubes so far but I’ve decided it’s going to be the Tor Audio but need the 6XX first or similarly high impedance headphones. The only worry I have is your belief in this concept of end game 😂 that you speak of. Think how boring it would be not reworking the set up, plugging and unplugging the cables, tweaking this and tweaking that. There is always a new new end game. You absolutely know this. Even Massdrop we’re asking how can we improve it. 💆‍♀️

Lisasonictoweryeah, me neither tubes aren't really my thing but i know they can transform certain headphones you would think they were completely different, so will give one or two a go, my mate has the bottle head crack with the speedball and he really likes it. i meant end game as such is i really wouldn't need to get anything better DAC or AMP wise, like next dac would be the D1 or soon the D2 & amp idk as the 789 is that insane i would be looking at way over $1000 (even the $3000 qes reference amp is given is run for its money *shrug*) it will always evolve as i do with my studio stuff & media creation etc but for me especially when coming to reference things you do need it to be a standard, & in my studio i want to know the whole setup & know the sound etc. so i doubt i will change the physical aspect of the DAC/AMP for well a LONG time, but it will evolve, will always be adding different headphones & will also have it balanced for some headphones if i really wanted. etc i need to have an " industry standard" as such for my use, as i also have a MAckie big knob studio for other monitors to reference off/mics its etc where my SM7B is located as well i did have a DBX 286 at one point, i am interested in the new GoXLR streaming mixer, seems decent, i did like my mic with the 286s but now i have it with a fethead & big knob studio, i do miss the live tuning i could do compressing etc.

Lisasonictowerahaha it seems that way, i have calmed myself tho since i now have the SU-8 & 789 combo & even a magni if i wanted to use the amp part (it was in my previous setup so thought instead of buying another pre-amp just use the magnis) im just gonna chill for awhile as its a perfect setup for what my use case. is for my desk setup & need reference wise & need some time with it, sound wise since its so clean which is perfect. like i also acoustically treated my room from advanced acoustics (helps for what i do) but i also wanted the best sound for the room.

Lisasonictoweri have a question, how much are you enjoying the 58X & HE4XXs day to day/music etc i have the 6XX but wanted a pair of 58X & take the foam out so can get as close as the 660s as possible as zeos said without buying the 660s. what do you like about them etc? ive seen the reviews etc so i know what they are like without putting them on (which i need to do) but its always nice getting others opinions on headphones. im also hoping beyer do a DT 199X collab since they have just done the closed back version the DT 177X so hopefully they bring the legendary DT 1990s to MD, ive always been a fan of the DT 1990s but just never actually bought a pair.

Lisasonictowerive always gone around the $100 mark for headphone amps but i saw the 789 & specs & for the price, went oof that a must purchase. its taken a while xD but finally can chill. While the 789 page was pinned i was frantically refreshing the page each day for X amount of time since last year. The SMSL SU-8 arrived so thought i should upgrade to that while i waited lmao.

RathsI use the 58X all day every day and thoroughly enjoy them, I haven’t taken the foam out and don’t feel I’m missing anything. They took a good 50 hours to open up as they were terrible out of the box, I’d say they are still breaking in but incrementally slowly now. The 4XX I’ve not really used a great deal, the low sensitivity and no dedicated amp has meant they are no use currently hence the 789. Both for for my small head are super comfortable. Im pretty sure they shall both be absolutely transformed on the 789. For context act as I’m new to the headphone arena of audio and I come from initially car audio then home thereafter, this is my current set up. I literally threw it together as I had moved address and well I have left it like it as I knew it was going to change. The headphones are my old DJ pair and 15 years old, they get the worst reviews ever but honestly they are pretty good.

Lisasonictoweri actually had thought much about the He4XX i heard good things about the bass but thats about it really so i didn't think much of them, i like bass with all the acid techno/ deadmau5 etc & other music/movies i watch Gaming/streaming etc & i know what i'm looking for. i Think if you want planar you have to get higher end ones to appreciate the quality etc. for the HD58X they came out after i got my HD6XX & i will deffo grab a pair i do hope in the future they do HD8XX or the fix the awful treble peaking in the HD700s which is fatiguing and tune them better for HD7XX. hoping Beyer do the DT 1990s for 199X & since they just brought out the 177X gos probably, looking at some other open backs as closed backs aren't really my thing, just find soundstages a bit too tight but i may pick up one pair of Fostex X-00s Also yeah if you take the foam pieces out (which change the sound signature which is why sennheiser added them) you take them out & they are much closer to the HD 660s signature wise. i do fancy dabbling in ear pads when i eventually get my collection up & have some that benefit from them etc

RathsTotally agree on higher end planar, LCD2C and ether flow C for me but honestly it isn’t happening at all so the 4XX it is. Yeah I bought 4XX for the bass and mcguivered up they have potential so 789 should make them sing but so far the closed back Sony have the most bass. The 58X have less bass but way better quality of bass but I’m no bass cannon lover so prefer the quality over quantity. I listen mainly to trance, hardhouse, techno and anything acid gets a tick, along with many other random music. I may remove the foam one day but my set up is mediocre right now, it makes the sound go and I’m content enough but I’m not looking to chase fractions until the 789 arrives. I know many removed the foam and changed back again.

Lisasonictoweryeah, agreed on the choice & me neither haha & exactly Bass has to be smooth & punchy but not muddy & drowns out the mids. & its funny i listen to everything really music wise, i normally test my headphones through top 50 charts, then go to songs i know really well & then just have it shuffle on random playlists. HD6XX has been my main pair for awhile ive gone to an Audio store & sat and listened to some headphones but ultimately need to be at my setup & my type/choice of music & in foobar etc lmao & yeah ive seen that, i just know they use the exact same drives as the 660s as the serial numbers match etc zeos had a good looketc but they add the foam to change the signature away from the 660s lmao

RathsOnly 20 weeks to find out what they can actually do lol. He’s a good dude zeos, totally can figure out what something will sound like from listening to him, so much so I can confidently buy blind. Are you you familiar with streaming? I need to rip my cd collection and then I want to stream it and ideally to access it at home and away from home and here is the kicker, stream without using a computer 😂. I know there is VOX but I don’t want to pay. The only music service I use is soundcloud, Spotify, tidal whatever just suck big time for me. There is my conundrum what solutions are there if you know of any?

Lisasonictoweryeah i know just saying that that's not what type of steaming is done, as its the other way around im encoding to a server not from a server to me. & no sadly not as i stream everything as normally i have 4G everywhere or at least edge & for now i have unlimited music streaming so it doesn't use any data
