Are we still allowed for refund now? I want to buy the 887 instead... Edit1: Just heard back from service crew, the drop orders are not refundable and not cancelable once its been placed. I saw massdrop closed the 789 drop just a few days ago with no significant increase in sales, and reopened again after a few hours, I guess they forced to charge you and complete your orders now. Edit2: It is very stupid and does not make sense. If you order now, your order will still be shipped on 15 Nov and you can cancel your order before the current drop end, while the customers who joined earlier (just like me ordered on end of July) will not be able to cancel the order because they "claim" that they have placed your orders to manufacturer. Since both drop will be shipped on 15 Nov, why can't the people joined earlier to cancel their orders before this drop end? If the manufacturer already made the product based on our earlier orders, why can't you ship earlier? Edit3: I'm willing to sell my preordered 789 for 380 USD (+ international shipping cost) after I received the parcel from drop OR changed my order to your home address. (Only in Australia region, do let me know if you are interested.)

LoveisSameAllThe 887 probably is not as good as their 788. As for the 789 I hear it's less clinical than the monoprice 788, I would not cancel.

Z0d1AcThanks for the advice! but I really appreciate the earlier shippment from monoprice and the metal finishing on the 887 more than the cheap plastic on 789. I'm just curious to check that are we able to cancel the order before Massdrop ships the product? That will help me to decide whether I should buy another 887.

LoveisSameAllBoth are metal. Just the 789 has cheaper metal (aluminum) and buttons (not sure about the 887, I know the 788 is more solid). edit: if you cancel right away you should be able to do that I think. you need to contact their support unless a mod sees this.

LoveisSameAlloh wait a second here. I made a huge mistake in the post above. The lower price confused me a little (400 usd). I was thinking it was a 788 thx aaa. IT'S A 887! Sorry, it's just I had the fiio q5s thx aaa amp module in mind which is a 78 which is lower on the tier list and is not all that exciting. The 887 is a much higher tier which is probably similar to the original reference Benchmark HPA4 by thx themselves which is a thx 888. The monoprice 887 at $400 seems like a steal, I would maybe consider canceling. I just saw the audio science review of it now and it's performs better than the 789 in noise tests. I just hope it sounds just as good or better. Good thing to because I have the thx aaa portable. Was thinking about waiting till black friday or another sale to get the full desktop version 788. But they now have a 887 at a lower price. Does not have dirac tho I dont think :( edit: oh I dont think it has a built in dac. Thats maybe why they can sell it cheaper. hmmmmm

LoveisSameAllSo the 887 hasn't even started being sold (estimated October) and even they can't say if they'll keep it in stock (which is Drop's issue). Anyway, the thing is there's no audible difference at 2db better measurement, and the Drop variant is actually more powerful. So the bottom line is it's a wash. The one major plus to the 887 is that it's got a 5 year warranty, which is pretty stellar. Just food for thought here. I don't think you'll go wrong with either option. I just think people are jumping ship over an item they don't even have in-store yet. There's been a lot of misconceptions about it being already for sale and the like.

postwarscarsThanks for the advice mate! But being as a customer, I would still prefer to buy the 'better' product with the same amount of money spent. That makes me more satisfied to think about it even though I 'may' not be able to tell the difference. However, I have not receive any replies from massdrop about the eligibility of cancelation of complete orders.

LoveisSameAllWas the drop already closed? To my knowledge, you can cancel up until they close the drop.

postwarscarsI joined the drop on the end of July, they closed the drop once back in Aug and reopened it. Anyway, I just received the reply from Massdrop, they told me I can't cancel the order now, which pissed me off.

LoveisSameAllMP has revised their ship date to November 23; so that takes away one of the pluses for the 887.

LGCiWell...Then I guess I have nothing much to complain now. But I still prefer to get the 887 if its possible to cancel this order.

LoveisSameAllThe 789 is quite chunky and built like a tank. I was surprised at how solid the all metal construction felt when I received mine. If I recall my package weighed in at 6 lbs or almost 3 kg

minty1Yeah I got the Airist R2R DAC and was surprised at how solid it was so I knew the 789 would be just as solid.
