I received the THX AAA 789 amplifier this morning and have been enjoying it with SMSL Sanskrit DAC + Hifiman Sundara headphones. This evening, I noticed the left driver of Sundara cut out. My immediate reaction was the Sundara since it is well known that Hifiman suffered some build quality issues in the past. I switched from the 6.35 SE output to 3.5 mm SE output of the 789 amplifier and experienced the same problem. I switched the left and right inputs to Sundara and to my surprise, right driver is now dead. This meant Sundara was okay but the left output channel of the amp is dead. I also plugged the headphone directly into the headphone jack of my M1 Mac mini and it played fine. I then turned off both DAC and the 789 amp and turned them back on. The cutout problem went away. So I am experiencing an intermittent output issue presumably from the amp. I also suspect the problem maybe coming from the SMSL DAC but not sure how to nail down the issue. Any recommendation of the next step to further diagnose or please share if you experience a similar build quality issue with this amplifier. I saw some posts about the longevity or QA of this particular amp. Sound wise, it is incredible when working with the Sundara.
