Can it be used as a preamp and take as input a phono signal? The output of the THX AAA One will then feed into a power amp. Will this configuration work?

If "phono signal" means the output of a phono preamp, this will work.
The raw output of a turntable without a built-in phono preamp will not work. It must be amplified and equalized by a phono preamp before taken as the input to THX AAA One.

Does the pre button on the front toggle between headphone and pre output? Can I leave headphones and powered monitors attached and use this to switch between them?
