Hi All,  it’s great to see all the discussion around DACs in relation to our THX amp lineup.  We also agree these sorts of products should be in the line up and have already begun the planning for what the product(s) would be.  It would be great to hear more about what the community wants from such a product but we ask that the discussion continue over in our dedicated DAC discussion here: https://drop.com/talk/36681/drop-studio-dac-discussion?utm_source=linkshare&referer=5BMHY2 Let’s keep this thread focused on the THX ONE.  Thanks! Power Amp Comments. Currently our AAA amp lineup consists of the THX ONE and the 789.  The ONE being our entry level amp and the 789 aimed at more dedicated audiophiles wanting more power and amp with Balanced output. In addition to these two amps, we are planning a third amplifier which will take things even further, enabling use with sensitive speakers.  This third amp will be our TOTL amplifier product. There will be more to share in the coming months but we wanted to outline the DROP AAA lineup.

This TOTL amplifier is an interesting space for Drop to get into. Driver tech and design has really improved over the past few years, both in headphones and loudspeakers, so which "sensitive" speaker models work best with this amp will be a pretty interesting topic once we get more specifics about power handling.

Will the third as of yet not named amplifier have more power than 789, is this a headphone amp and sensitive speaker amp? Either way id say give it a headphone socket in the same way emotiva do on the Basx100 to allow the full power of the amplifier to be able to drive planars properly and other hard to drive headphones. Oh oh and make a tone control like the schiit Loki to match the drop stack.

I'm mostly looking for a quiet, clean preamp to control some powered desktop speakers, and this looks like a pretty great option for that. Not sure what else is out there as far as entry-level preamps go, but RCA outs on the THX One would have to be a necessity (for me anyways). I do think given the competition, that $150 makes a lot more sense for what you're getting. How much of an improvement over Schiit, JDS Labs, or even Monoprice will this be? I'm sure it will sound excellent. That's not the issue.

How would you compare this to the SMSL SP200? Although this has less power, wonder if the Sp200 is worth $260 vs $199 for this. I do like the pre-amp options on this vs the SP200. I JUST ordered the SP200 with a SMSL M200 dac. This will be my set up for a long time any help won’t be appreciated.

Could you explain this a little more? Isn’t this amp designed to used with either RCA or XLR?

$149 would be much preferred price in terms of recommending this amp over the others.

They should at least go for an introduction price of $149 or $159, and bump it later to $179 or whatever. $200 range is ridiculous considering the competition from $99 atom and magni heresy

As everyone is commenting $50 more too much. Seeing that's only $100 less to the THX789, it's a hard recommend, esp with the Magni/Modi stack at the same price. Considering the Airist R2-R DAC might get rereleased again due to this, it's hard to try to recommend a single-ended stack like that over the other options. Already opting selling my G109-A in the future for something else myself.

I think it will need two switchable inputs, otherwise the usability drops a lot for me. The JDS Labs Atom is $99,- and has two inputs.

Stopping by to add my 2 cents... If this unit is priced sub 200 bucks with shipping and an SDAC included ... Then it will compete. Otherwise don't waste your money and just get an Atom or a Topping A50.

Single-ended SDAC, based on indepenent measurements, does not perform up to the level of a THX-circuit amplifier, and not just by a little bit. There are other single-ended, similarly-priced options that are closer. (I own an SDAC.) Maybe if there's an 'SDAC 2' that performs more like the SDAC balanced.

Everything upstream will have less harmonic distortion than a typical speaker or headphones... don't obsess over the little variances they are not usually the bottleneck on audio performance. ASR should be taken in proper context, 80% of their SINAD rankings are devices with levels inaudible to the average human being. Focus on features and I/O compatibility before obsessing over a few db or .0X% noise and distortion. Two devices at the same price point with similar feature, ok use the specs and user reviews to decide between them. Don't eliminate options prematurely because they fall in a still very inaudible level of noise/distortion on ASR's rankings.

If we are lucky(I am really hoping here), pre-order will have some sort of a discount so it's going to be more reasonable price-wise compared to other excellent amps from JDS and Schiit. I already have the Atom and I am really keen on having this one on another desk setup.

It would be amazing if they were to use AAA THX chips to make a dedicated stereo preamp with digital and analog inputs (no headphone stuff).
