Attended the listening event last night, and I have to say I was really surprised (in a good way) by the Pandas. I brought an SP1000+Amp w/ 6xx as a reference point, and the Pandas pretty much stomped all over them. The 6xx have a polite, laid back voicing, and the Pandas are very detailed and clear by comparison. Mids are excellent. I picked a couple tracks that have chorusing and other layering effects, and imaging/separation was excellent. Picked NIN "Copy of A" for the bass hits early in the track and they were suitably impactful and articulate without being too forward in the mix. The Pandas do sound "closed," but they do it well; the overall sound is coherent and even. I didn't find that to be a fault with the Pandas, but it's a data point. I did find them to be decently isolating (particularly with music playing). I am not a fan of ANC and glad these don't do that. The Pandas would work well in an office environment. The closest thing to criticisms I could muster would be comfort-related, but the Pandas were not uncomfortable. I'd just like slightly bigger earcups. I could appreciate a bit more plushness in the pads. And some other cans like AKG 7XX are just better at all-day comfort factor. Still, nothing disappointed. Build quality looks good. Audio quality was exceptional. And the convenience factor of being wireless is amazing given everything else the Pandas did well. I think these are going to be another win for Drop. Nice job, folks!

SpeleoFool"I brought an SP1000+Amp w/ 6xx as a reference point, and the Pandas pretty much stomped all over them". That statement is a laughing stock bud.

LuckyLuke575Why would you say that? Given the $400 asking price, I wanted to see how 6xx compared, since those headphones + a DAC/Amp would run about the same price. SP1000+Amp should have given the 6xx every advantage, allowing them to perform at least as well as a $200 desktop amp, yet they couldn't keep up with the Pandas. So what exactly do you find so laughable about that?

SpeleoFoolCan you compare bass and treble quantity between Pandas and 6XX?

karmazynowyIt's been a few days now, and I only did direct comparison of 6xx and Pandas for a couple songs (because the difference in detail was so stark), so take the following with a grain of salt: Both 6xx and Panda feel to me like they have a "balanced" bass quantity--neither strikes me as especially bass-heavy or bass-light. I did get more of a sense of bass impact from the Pandas. However, that may simply be a function of their closed design, or it may be because I was specifically looking for impact when listening to the Pandas and it was there. I think the fairest assessment is to call bass quantity "similar." I'm less certain what to say about the treble. The mids and details on the Pandas are so impressive that it's tempting to believe they may have more treble than 6xx, but I'm not really convinced. I feel like the ribbon transducer is simply more resolving, or else the Sennheiser "veil" does more to soften fine detail. Regardless, the Pandas didn't seem excessively bright or harsh (like too much treble), nor does their "closed" sound seem like the highs are too aggressively rolled off. I suppose I'm not confident enough in my limited time with the Pandas to make any definitive statements about treble quantity vs 6xx. Both strike me as reasonably neutral headphones, overall. The obvious / large differences between the two were not so much a matter of tuning (frequency response / quantities) as presentation (detail, imaging, clarity).

kishanDo you need an amp with these? No, not for wireless operation. The THX amp built into the headphones provides plenty of power. The 3.5mm line in lets you pipe in music from an alternate, wired source. I used a beefy DAP (SP1000 + Amp) to test this, and it did take a fair amount of power to drive it. I did not try with something like a phone--but if you wanted to listen from a phone, why not just use Bluetooth? If you want to use the wired path an amp is probably a good idea; however, I can't think of too many scenarios where you'd want to use a wired connection and would not also have the option to use Bluetooth (should be available on most phones, tablets, laptops, etc.). So I don't think you need an amp at all to enjoy the Pandas, but if you have one then you'll have one more option for driving them.
