WillHave you considered angled pads to improve soundstage and, if true that these are based on the PM-3, will there be any frequency response graphs or official comparisons? Also, the original PM-3 supported a 4-pole, 3.5mm TRRS balanced connection which I loved because of the increased channel separation. Will the final product include balanced, wired capability? Oh, just an idea, an app for Android or IOS to control the codec, gain, EQ, etcetera, like the ES100, might be fantastic way to engage a wider audience as there are many who like to have control over their device and fine tune it.

WillHow do you remove the pads? I have a pair and can't figure it out at all. I really don't want to break anything.

VictordomicusDid you ever figure out how to remove the pads? I got a set of adapters 3D printed so I can attach different pads but like you I also don't want to break anything during removal. The adapters show 6 slots and it doesn't look like the tab style that rotates into position but more like something clips into them.

SampsonUnfortunately, I never figured it out. Any pulling/twisting force I applied just seemed to be ripping the glued pad away from whatever mount is currently installed.

VictordomicusI just got done removing mine. I figured it out. Here is my how to: The cup is secured by six plastic tabs with hooks facing outward, so you'll want to apply outward pressure in order to free these hook tabs. If you look inside the ear cup and peel the padded area back you'll see a clear flat plastic wring. You want to get at least three finger nails in between the bottom of that plastic ring and above the fabric screen beneath it. Then grip it, apply outward pressure to the ring to help release the hook tab while also pulling upward on the ring. It won't be easy and each attempt might release one or two tabs. The reason it's so difficult and feels strange is because some tabs seem to have adhesive added to them while other tabs do not, so some release easily while others are a real pain. Once you get some tabs released, rotate the cup back & forth in the little space that you can to help break the adhesive bond on the remaining tabs. It seems like each ear has one or two tabs which are glued. Also, there seems to be some poor positioning of the padding that's glued to the inside of the headphones - some of that padding might be stuck into some of the slots along with the tabs causing the fit to be a lot tighter and making it more difficult to release them. I had to cut off a very small bit of the pad on one side near one of the tabs in order to fit my 3D printed adapter. I'm now using my pair of Brainwavz oval angled sheepskin pads on the Panda and the comfort is absolutely amazing. Originally I couldn't wear these for more than an hour or two before having noticeable discomfort (aside from the noticeable discomfort immediately upon putting them on). Now I can wear these all day no problem. I think if I were buying new pads instead of reusing ones I already had I would probably go with something a bit more slim than these angled ones. Something slightly thinner would still keep my ear from touching the inside but would also reduce the clamping force which has gone up a lot with these new pads.

SampsonOh, wow! I'll have to investigate further with this new information. Thank you. Do you happen to have a link to the 3D printed adapter you used?

SampsonThanks for the file! I think I found an easier and more reliable way to remove the pads too. Ifixit spatula tool around the outside edge of the pads pops them off pretty easily.

SampsonTook your file, printed two adapters, checked my pad stocks, and I think I got a pretty great combination going right now. YAXI stPad 2. I have large ears too and completely resonated with the ear touching woes. The YAXIs provide more ear space without going too thick. I played with an ill fitting thicker pad and encountered an escalation in clamping force, like you observed. The YAXI's materials are quite similar to the original pad so sound signature seemed to go largely unchanged, but Lord is it more comfortable than the originals. More room for my ears! I would like even larger pads, but the YAXI is a really great balanced improvement with no real drawbacks - from what I can tell. And the color coding 👍

VictordomicusMan that little splash of colour does wonders for them. Yours looks awesome. I don't want to take any credit for the design of the adapter - that's not my design, I just found it online. When I get a job again I'll be sending a tip to the gentleman who created it since they're perfect and they're worth their weight in gold.

Sampsonfor someone who has no problem with the original earpads other than my ear touching the inside, do you know if there's a 3d print for a short extension of sorts just to add a couple mm of distance from the cups?

BanTheUndeadDo pads come in different sizes? I only buy Brainwavs pads and they just have a selection of shapes. Anything oval should fit.
