I'm seriously considering purchasing these headphone but won't if they're not vegan. Can someone clarify if the "protein leather" used on these use protein from eggs? I found varying information when I searched what "protein leather" is. Thanks!
Depending on what the protein is, it could come from an animal source or a synthetic origin. Protein leather is generally a synthetic based leather thats not real, but it could still come from non-vegan sources like eggshells, which are often discarded by the industry. So it depends how seriously you take your veganism imo. It doesnt directly harm an animal, but you do take a chance in case it does come from an animal product. The alternative would be straight PU pads which some people call protein leather (but its not), They generally dont feel as nice or last as long but are technically more vegan specific. Theres also many little things that go into making these products like there could be animal product based glues but they arent specific about it. Again depends how seriously you take your veganism.
Someone down below commented on that they are Japanese Protein Leather, so I assume that confirms that it will be an eggshell based protein.
thank you for bringing this up as it’s a top concern of mine also
thanks. looks like I won't be purchasing these headphones, bummer.
Agreed. Real bummer as the tech sounds great, but I'm not down with non-vegan - at all.
I'm vegan since 22-23 years and it's my understanding the original protein leather product used eggshell protein and without knowing else that's what I'd assume is the case. I think the Beyer-Dynamics T50i or whatever used it too. For me personally it's not what I would prefer and I've typically been very consistent but for me personally I could likely had decided to ignore/go past that one. Not with sheep skin leather or something such though. I guess that would had been because of practical reasons and my life isn't completely without impact for others anyway.
