Seemingly stable bt connection, but pretty bad crackling/sound floor in left ear (until the pop, then it's silent). I'd like to get an exchange, but is there any confirmation this is a known issue? I'd hate to just get another faulty set.

Mine also have a rather high noise floor or hiss. It's quiet loud especially on quiet passages. As you said, mine are also silent after the pop. I would also like to know if this is a defect.

I got a replacement that's a lot better. Still there, but far, far less noticeable. There's definitely a wide tolerance of noise/static in the left cup.

Based on everything I've read here, this is normal. It takes many seconds for the fancy THX amp to power up so the headphone starts out using the basic qualcomm amp to play the start up sound and then switches over to the thx amp when it ready and that is the pop you may hear. If you still hear noise once it's been playing music for 30 seconds, I would contact support.

I'm not concerned with the pop. It's the crackling/sound floor that's bad. Basically unusable for audiobook type content.
