Back to basics. An entry-level gaming headset that can do what you need. We started with the Koss GMR 540-ISO as the base model which already came with some great features such as the detachable boom mic that’s easy to position and stays in place: the lightweight construction reduces fatigue over extended periods of use. The clean, understated design is something you’d like to wear outside of your home. A solid sound performance makes it enjoyable for more than just playing games. This all makes sense given Koss’s long history of making HiFi headphones.   With the Drop + Koss GMR-54X-ISO, we really like the ability to change out the cables on this headset. It’s a feature that is normally found on higher priced models and is at the core of this product’s flexibility. The shorter TRRS cable with in-line mic, that is included, is also great for when you just want to listen to music or use the headphones on the go. Or, some might prefer to use this cable with their console controller for casual gaming.     One feature that surfaced through community feedback was the addition of an in-line volume and mute switch to the boom mic cable. We worked with Koss to come up with a simple but useful way to quickly adjust the headset volume and mute the mic. The control is positioned to rest on your chest, making it readily accessible while not getting in the way of your keyboard. The headphone itself is pretty light, which is great when you are wearing it for 5-6 hours at a time. Additionally, after letting our coworkers spend some time with the headphones, we decided that the tension in the padded strap needed to be relaxed to accommodate a greater range of users and provide a better overall seal for the earcups. The last piece we wanted to add was a simple adapter which combines the separate headphone and mic terminations of the dedicated gaming cable. It’s a simple part, but including it now means you can use this cable on the 3.5mm TRRS input on most console controllers, including Xbox, PS4, and the Switch.
