Hey Dan, Can we expect a version with a solid inner or optional addition of a solid inner to be offered at a later date/drop, I really hope so?
JCB81I'd really like to do a solid inner. Drop knows there is a fair bit of interest in a solid inner and continued requests like this help to demonstrate that. Right now I think they are waiting to see how sales go and if it's viable to meet ordering minimums etc. If sales are good enough that I expect a solid inner option will be available at some point but it depends on Drop greenlighting that project. So I can't promise anything but I certainly agree that it would be a great option.

dandurstonHi Dan. Just curious, what would be the theoretical benefit of a solid inner vs. a mesh inner?
DJ.HLCSolid inners block more airflow, so they are warmer in the winter or very windy conditions. Downside is they also have less airflow when it's hot and you want a cooler tent. So mesh inners are more summer/3 season and solid is more shoulder season/winter.

dandurstonI still prefer using a mostly mesh inner in winter, just so all the condensation freezes on the fly, and so I can touch the mesh without getting ice on me. It's especially nice in late winter when the sun rises, the ice starts thawing, and rains down on the mesh and either drips down outside, or I can blot it from the inside of the mesh. Mountaineering would be different... crazy winds & spindrift. Edit: I'm particularly excited to use the X-Mid in winter. My Nemo Hornet 2P doesn't have enough volume for me and my thick winter sleeping pad & super fluffy winter bag.

dandurstonI'm thinking about getting the tent even though the solid inner is not available atm...when it is hopefully available sometime in the future could there possibly be an option to purchase just the inner (since I would already have the tent with the mesh inner)? PS: I will probably still purchase the tent even if the answer is no, because it looks just like what we need with my SO :) Thank you.

dandurstonThis discussion about solid inners doesn't appear to be gaining much traction at present. I'm wondering whether a poll for solid inners for the X-Mid 1P and 2P tents might provide a better (ie more quantitative) indication of the actual demand for such an option. What do you think?
DuskyBayA poll would certainly be interesting. The challenge would be doing it in an unbiased way. If Drop did a poll they'd get a pretty good answer, but if another website or forum did it with an audience that is mostly from one area, then the answer might just reflect that area and not the larger audience. I think users can set up polls in the community section here on Drop, so that would be interesting to do.
smartincz"could there possibly be an option to purchase just the inner (since I would already have the tent with the mesh inner)?" I'm not sure how Drop would handle it if they do offer a solid inner, so I'm not sure if it would be available separately or not. They could have solid and mesh versions, or a package with both, and/or just the solid inner by itself etc. But even if they did offer a solid inner by itself, if you buy the mesh version yet prefer solid then you may wish to re-sell your entire tent and buy a new one if the solid is released. If you buy just the solid inner it would cost $100 - $150 perhaps, whereas you could could probably sell your $250 tent for $200 if it's gently used, and then buy the new one for $280 or so, and then only be out $80. But of course if you do want both styles then you want the solid inner available on it's own.
