I took the X-mid out on its debut trip a few days ago and had a great time. However, I found my corner lines did not hold tension in the lineloc. If I tried to snug up the line, it would just release all the pressure and go to the fullest extent. I figured this is just the cord being too thin for the lineloc to hold it. I've ordered some 2.5mm Lawson cord to replace it. Dan, or anyone else, does that sound like the solution?
TXParkRangerYes that'll have a lot more holding power. Your 1.5mm cord is thin, so it doesn't hold as well as ideal, and it can break in a high wind gust. It tends to hold to about 20-25 lbs which is normally sufficient but depending on a few factors like the angle, wet cord etc it can be lower. Holding power can also be reduced if it slips a few times at higher loads and that adds wear to the cord. Upgrading to 2.5mm cord holds much better to about 70 lbs, which is really good. That's better than almost any other tent (e.g. 2.5mm in LineLoc 3's is the most common arrangement and only holds to about 40 lbs). The above info is for regular accessory cord (e.g. Lawson Guywire and Glowire). The dyneema core stuff (e.g. Lawson Ironwire) tends to be stiffer so I haven't tested it but it doesn't seem to grip as well. A 2.5mm iron wire might grip to 50 lbs, which is less but still probably plenty. We have updated the X-Mid 2P now to use 2.5mm cord at the corners. That updated version recently arrived with Drop and it'll go on sale very soon (Monday?) but users with the original cord can easily upgrade that with any 2.0 - 2.5mm accessory cord. Most outdoor gear shops sell that by the foot/yard (e.g. REI has it for $0.50/ft) but you can also buy it by the 50' hank from places like Lawson.

TXParkRangerMake sure your line is feeding correctly and loading the lineloc right. If the cord doesn’t overlap it’s self the lineloc might not hold.
