Hi Dan I’m from Ecuador. I have your tent in my short list but I’m worried about durability especially for the tent floor. Also I’m worried about setup because here campsites are very irregular en exposed with high winds. Also we are at high altitudes and rains a lot I would like you thoughts. Thanks I’m advance
MarioLalamaHi Mario, The tent floor is a fairly light material (20 denier) but not as light as many ultralight tents (10-15 denier). Normally it can last a very long time, but it can be damaged on sharp rocks and sticks. I am developing groundsheets for this tent that will clip to the tent and provide protection for the floor. For the rest of the tent, no one has ever damaged one in high winds. You do need to make sure it is pitched well (e.g. good stakes and pitched tight) and use extra stakes and guylines if needed. Pitching on irregular surfaces can be a challenge. There are some techniques to learn that can help. You can use the peak guylines to support a corner that might not be tight because it's pitched on a bump, or if a stake needs to go in a dip in the ground then you can set the cord there longer so it doesn't pull the tent down into that dip too. The X-Mid is an excellent tent in rain because it has very waterproof fabrics, plus it is polyester so it doesn't sag in the rain, nor get heavy with water weight. It also pitches fly first to keep the inner tent dry and has protected entryways so rain won't land on the inner tent.

dandurstonCould you tell us more about the groundsheet - will that be sold separately through Drop? Will it be included with future iterations of the tent? Any word on likely availability date or cost?
peripatetesThis will be an accessory sold separately from the tents and separately from Drop. It'll be sold on DurstonGear.com. I expect to have it ready by spring (~May). Unsure of pricing but likely pretty normal for a groundsheet (~$40 - $50 perhaps?). You can sign up for the mailing list on DurstonGear.com if you want to hear when it launches.

dandurstonCould you make it available also trought Amazon? Maybe coupled to the tent itself.. I was planning to buy this incredibile piece of gear in spring, but since I'm not in the USA Amazon would be way more easy, because import fees are already included If you'll make the groundsheet available on Amazon I'll be really happy to buy it with the tent!
fabiomGood point about Amazon being easier for international buyers. I'll consider that. I'm not sure if I can do it because selling through Amazon requires me to ship stock to them and then pay for them to warehouse it, which might not be practical if sales aren't that high for groundsheets, but it would also save me having to ship out all the orders individually. I'll look into this and see if it's something that makes sense.
