I had to jump in on this one before it got away. I ordered the orange on black. Really digging the different look of the watch. It will catch some eyes for sure.
If it wasn't 44 inches across I might consider it
Oh btw I was lucky enough to get a couple of Dufa automatics from Ashford before they sold out in like 10 minutes last year, and I like the style and look of the watches very very much, I wish they had more of those automatics available....seems like Ashford is just selling their Dufa stock off they haven't added to it in all this time....anyway, we all know they aren't really made in Germany, right? German requirements for using the Made in Germany label are basically having a PO Box. (OK, maybe assembly in germany, but still...)
Just pulled the trigger , the black dial brown strap ison it's way ,,, just hope it arrives . NOT ! like the Ingersol Bateman that was NOT !!! delivered !!!
JoensuuThere are reasons.
A lot, well most companies, outside of the really expensive hand made and forged in their own facilities like Rolex; buy the components for their watches from a number of suppliers, mainly far east. The case is just another component like a dial or hands etc. Often you will see a dial where the company hasn't done enough decoration or color and texture change, and the dial is identical to another or many other watches!! That's because it is. With cases a lot of manufacturers will make them to a size to accommodate more than one brand/style of movement. i.e. quartz movement in general is a lot lighter and physically smaller than an automatic. In this case I suspect there are more than one brand buying and using this casing, it has a good WR, so I would suggest somewhere there is a watch with this rugged diver style case with an automatic movement inside!! I know that Seiko's NH35 for all it's attributes is also quite a large unit; and I would say in this day and age with the rise of Chinese manufacture there are hundreds of automatic movements even larger than the Seiko. It is why you can buy certain movements and put them into a range of other brands product different than from the watch brand you may have thought had almost exclusivity on using that movement. It is really like a form of "techno, artistic lego building". I hope I haven't bored you, but if you do buy from Drop after over ten purchases I can vouch for them .Good luck.
Seems to be an above average amount of consternation concerning this watch? I suppose in part because there's damn little information available about the model specifically, and about as much info about the company entirely. Well, under circumstances like that what's a fellow to do?
One word: Conjecture!
Yes, conjecture--that means we get to guess about the stuff we don't know and even make up a lot of other shit as we go along. So here's my stab at it:
Just buy the damn watch! It's not bad looking, it's quartz (it's almost impossible to make a bad quartz watch these days). The styling isn't bad either. I'm no fan of small seconds sub dials, but in this example that complication actually makes sense. I also like the crown at 1:30--if you're concerned about the overall case size, this crown's position will allow the watch to appear more like a 40-42-ish mm case (on that slender little wrist of yours).
I also see that it comes on decent leather strap that looks like it should last a year or so, and when it's time to change it out, you'll have tons of options because the lug width is a pretty standard 22mm.
Now as the the company and its kind of odd name--what of it? Probably sounds like a regular name in German (assuming you buy that bit of it being a German-made watch), but that shouldn't put you off, lots of watches have dumb-sounding names. Assuming you can get past it, you probably have some concerns about the quality of the piece. I wouldn't worry about it--on the off chance that it arrives broken, MD with give you your money back. Down the road, the failure rate of quartz watches is almost nil.
But don't take my word for it @DamianDZ23 bought one and he gave it a Five Star review:
https://drop.com/buy/dufa-kiel-series-quartz-watch/reviews/2659612
Is it really made in Germany? I doubt it--maybe some portion of it is..the box? Possibly some screws? I don't know for sure, but I do know that if it wasn't made in Germany, it was probably made in China, like 99% of all the other watches in the world and they all work fine.
Truth is DuFa isn't well represented in the US and this might be the first time this model has been offered here (its a discontinued closeout, not available on DuFa's site or any international Amazon site either--I checked). That's not a big deal either--Seiko DCs watches all the time too.
So, would I buy this watch? No, I've got a bunch of watches already and I'm more the Diver type than the Field/Flieger/Military watch kind of guy. But--I'd wear it if I got one for my birthday--I don't think it's ugly and ugly is my primary issue with watches--no one should wear an ugly watch!
