Can anyone recommend a replacement cable? I only need 4 feet, and I prefer a soft rubber cable like the HD650/HD6XX's. Do these use standard 3.5mm plugs for the cups?

BearWithHeadphonesYou can get custom ones made from redco, I have ordered 5x mogami cables for my AKG Q701 from there and their service is great. http://www.redco.com/

ShervEh I don't want a fancy custom cable. I just want a cheap plain cable.

BearWithHeadphonesIt wont cost much, 6ft length with the right plugs will probably set you back 60 bucks at most and its a quality cable.
It's not like norn audio, I have a cable for my hifiman he-500 that set me back 300 bucks. Thinking of getting another norn cable for these when they come in.
Also any cable for HE-1000 or sennheiser hd 700 "should" work. I'll confirm when i get my teak. I'm guessing its TS 2.5mm ends that plug into the headphone and your standard TRS at the other end for the amp.

BearWithHeadphonesBelieve it or not the cable "can" make a difference. for example my he-500 I can definitely tell a difference between an all copper and silver cable. For my q701 I couldn't tell as much of a difference. I find it hard to believe you can spend 500 dollars on a pair of headphones but then skimp out on cables/amp. That's like buying a moderately expensive sports car but then complaining that tires cost too much.

shtimswell I don't see the connectors on their wizard for the 2 ends that plug into the headphone, I'm sure they have them if you message them. They are super friendly. I've placed orders before where I explained the application and accidentally chose the wrong connector to my akg q701. They sent me an email asking if I had made a mistake and wanted me to confirm. They are great. The cables I've used for my previous orders were the Mogami W2893 http://www.redco.com/Mogami-W2893-Miniature-Quad-Microphone-Cable.html and Gotham GAC-4 http://www.redco.com/Gotham-GAC-4.html
Get a neutrik 1/4 TRS Male if you need 1/4 size to go into the amp. I used the np3x-b on all my orders. http://www.redco.com/Neutrik-NP3X-B.html
If you want a 3.5mm then let them know Also let them know you need 2.5mm for the headphone end. They will most likely recommend different cables than the ones I linked due to their thickness and issues with the smaller 2.5mm connectors. Let them know and they will come up with a solution for you. Their prices are very reasonable.
I've owned norn cables, hifiman direct cables, akg cables, and custom redco. The redco ones, (ordered 5 total) never ever failed on me. The hifiman ones frayed and ripped apart. THe norn had the crimp fail on my coax connectors but Norn was SUPER Friendly with giving me an entire new cable almost 2 years after original purchase free.

ShervFirst of all it's not cable/amps, he was just asking about the cable so don't assume anything beyond that, second, that's a stupid car analogy, tires are one of the most important thing on any car regardless of the price and unlike cables they do wear out and each carry thousands of patents, unlike any headphone cable. Cables on electronics or transducers are while obviously vital for their operation they have NO impact on their performance,[unlike tires on cars] provided they are in working order and designed adequately to transmit the required current which is not a challenge to provide for headphones especially for dynamic ones. If you reside in Wonderland then anything is possible I'm sure but in the real world the laws of physics will trump religion[audiophilia nervosa].

TheHunSorry for anything I said in my earlier posts that may have offended you in any way. That was not my intention. Merry X-mas and Happy new year.
Also if you read what i wrote originally I did say "can" in quotes because that is subjective. The only time I truly could tell a difference between cables was with my hifiman copper and silver cables. They just sounded wrong, the silver was too bright and the copper sounded muddled. On my AKG I couldn't tell a difference only that the mogami cables I used were far more durable than the stock ones.
Tyll has a great read on it http://www.innerfidelity.com/content/headphone-cable-measurements-wrap#xJePf4fzdphtPUTq.97
I recommended redco for their service and mogami/gotham cables because A) they are durable/high quality and B) they are not expensive like the other DIY/After market specialty cables that honestly don't do much.
These stock cables with the teak already cut out (right side plug going into headphone) if I turn my head to the right or jiggle the right cable a little bit. I'm sure within a few weeks of use it will eventually break the connection.

ShervAny luck seeing if the HE-1000 or HD 700 cables work? Would it be possible to get a balanced cable for these made through redco?
