From E-MU’s Wood Series, these headphones feature full-size circumaural enclosures handcrafted from your choice of rosewood, ebony, or teak. And now, they’re available with a removable 1.5-meter cable—something fans of the Fostex TH and Denon D Series have been wanting for a while. Both the chassis and sound signature recall Denon’s much-missed D2000/5000, the black leather and golden-brown wood complemented by gleaming chrome accents. Inside, powerful neodymium drivers with bio-cellulose diaphragms deliver crystal-clear highs and deep, warm bass. Coupled with the soft earpads and adjustable padded headband, the lightweight frame provides hours of listening comfort.
Note: Due to the nature of these woods, coloring may vary slightly; this is especially true for the ebony enclosures.
Both the ebony and rosewood headphones have a V-shaped sound signature, faithful to the original Foster design. The high frequencies are energetic and lively, the low- to mid-bass tight and powerful, and the overall presentation slightly vocal-forward. The teak headphones, on the other hand, have a more gentle V-shaped signature, with wide staging, excellent layering, reduced sibilance in the highs and mids, and responsive bass with fast decay.
In the frequency plot below, the blue line represents the ebony headphones, red represents rosewood, and black represents teak.
