These new earpads were purchased to replace a long disappeared pair of thin yellow foam pads on a pair of Sennheiser HD40 headphones. Never heard of these? Well that's because they were made way back in he late 80s. 1987-88 I think or there about's and cost at the time was about $55. Longest lasting headphones I've ever had. Very simple plastic design and they still sound pretty good. Mostly used at work, instructional pc videos that sort of thing.
Have tried them on my home Hi Fi since and replacing the pads with these hi quality ones provided a much better balanced and surprisingly good sound. Very comfy and very light fit that I could wear for hours with no problems.
Of course these pads are not really meant for this model. Heck, it was over 30 years ago, go figure.
So I used a few bits of velcro from the craft area of a supermarket to attach them. Works and sounds just fine.
Bought these to replace my flaking oem pads for Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro. They were quick and easy to install, and are comfortable to boot! Sound signature didn’t change too drastically but I’m also hard of hearing and don’t catch on nuances as much, so overall I’m happy with this! The cushions inside feel a little bit flimsy, but we will see how they hold up in time.
The quality of these pads are great. The original pad is at the top in the pics. You can see the Dekoni has a nice stitching around the edge. I chose the Jerzee ones in hope that my ears wouldn’t sweat as much as when using the original pads, and I’m happy to say, they don’t. I use my 280s when I’m cutting grass, so these really help on hot days. Plus the overall softness and comfort are way better than the originals.
I thought the product was compatible with them, as it was specified as " AKG K Series" however upon receiving the product, its stated on the box as AKG K200 and K500 series only. I have contacted customer service, whilst helpful they is no provisions in drop's policies for misleading advertising. I did also request that the product listing be updated to specify like in the box. This has not been actioned yet as of 3 days ago. Please be forewarned. The product itself looks good and the leather feels nice but unfortunately does not work for me. Unless i buy another set of headphones...
tested on AKG 553 and DT770
Jerzee-
comfort- if you can imagine a slightly rough plastic being stretched into a earpad that's basically what it feels like when it moves on your skin but when stationary it's fine, the foam is fast rebounding not the best but gets the job done, very breathable
isolation- doesn't block much ambient noise compared to stock 770 pads/Brainwaves XL
sound- little bit airier than stock 770 pads/brainwaves XL (low end - , slightly more high end?)
Midnight-
comfort- nice soft leather/pleather? same foam as the jerzee, gets warm pretty quickly
isolation- blocks a bit more than stock 770/Brainwaves XL
sound- low end +, added a reverb/echo effect my 553's but was less noticeable for the 770's (listened to a couple songs before I noticed it, might be song dependent also)
Beyerdynamic DT and AKG K200 & 500 Series Midnight
I bought these for my DT177X Go. Attached images for comparison with the 177X's earpads.
I'll post a photo with one cup Sheepskin and Midnight on the other-- later.
Comparing these with the Sheepskins from the DT (closest match), size-wise, these [Midnight] are slightly bigger in both inner and outer diameters. These lend to it looking a bit thinner but they actually slide in so much easier than the sheepskins. The inner lip is also about the same size as the Sheepskins but since these are a bit larger, they actually aren't an issue with getting them on the headphones.
They're about as plush if not exactly as plush/deep as the sheepskins. The only difference is in how you like or dislike the material. I like them-- so there's that. haha. I haven't tried to listen on them for a sound comparison but yeah.
So, where's the 1 star off coming from? Well.... Drop decided to send them to me in a huge box-- attached.... and while that shouldn't bother anyone, I have these shipped overseas so... yeah, more delivery expenses.
