Great for movies and games, fun for music, definitely not a reference sound.
So I picked these up to compliment a headphone setup, so that I might entertain a guest in my "man cave," as it were. I put them up on a pair of homemade stands I threw together, and they perform admirably. In the right position, they spread the soundstage past the edges of their cabinets, and have enough resolution to hear voices and sound effects in games/movies, though back-to-back with my monitor cans I detect a distinct fuzziness in treble. There is a spike in the bass frequencies, mostly around 80hz, and the bass becomes inaudible around 50hz. They definitely sound bigger than they are, but they aren't necessarily giant-killers. They are perfect for a desk, or small room. I could get away with them in the living room, but there is too much foot traffic and they'd probably get knocked over. I also have the Edifier S2000 Pro's (also pictured on homemade stands), which are a more neutral, reference-level sound. I like both pairs of speakers, and for the money Edifier has a tough game to beat.
5 Stars! Totally recommend them.
I purchased the e25HD model. As far as the looks goes, these speakers are beautiful. As far as the sound quality, they are better than most computer speakers, but I would not compare them to any high-end speaker set. They do open-up after a few hours of playing, so don't judge the sound when you first plug them in. Location and direction you point them makes a big difference as well, so move them around to get the best sound possible. I tried them in wired mode connected directly to my Onkyo DP-X1 DAP and played both CD quality as well as Hi-RES music. On these speakers, there really wasn't any difference in sound quality. They sounded okay overall. Electronic music sounded better to my ears, and Jazz music with vocals sounded so-so. I connected these to my iPhone X through Bluetooth and they sounded a little warmer than the direct connection to my DAP and they never disconnected or have any issues. I purchased these to take to work and use in my office at low volumes, so I will be keeping them. But if you're looking for high quality sound, you're going to need to spend more.
Sparka, TLemelin, don't want to say a lot about another speaker brand in the Edifier review section, but the ML speakers are Motion 15s and they are really good speakers for their size and price - revealing but not dry. I have them connected to a fully upgraded by me tubeamp and I think that is a really good match for them. They would require a sub if used in a big room, but my office is small and they have plenty enough bass for me. That said, I will be selling them soon since I am upgrading to higher-end ATC speakers. :-)
I really loves these speakers. To me these are the most beautiful and best sounding speakers. You can obviously get better box speakers like KEF, but boxes no matter the color are fugly. (I was either getting the KEF LSX, ORB, or Edifier). I was won over by the combination of sound quality and aesthetics of the E25. I think for under $1000, theses are the best looking and sounding speakers to me.
I own both the HD and non-HD versions - Bluetooth in the HD version is definitely better as it connects faster and is more responsive. The newer bluetooth does a much better job of automatically and seamlessly syncing with your pc.
To get the most out of the speakers you want to run at least a dac. I have a headphone dac/amp combo and the sound improvement is very noticeable. You can run the volume to max without clipping for most tracks, unless it is very bass intensive.
I bought the stand a year ago for the non-HD and easily mounted the HD units on the stands.
You really can’t go wrong with these speakers.
EZ_Does_ITI have been using these for about a month or so and then saw your review about using a dac/amp and got curious. I hooked it up to my schiit dac/Vali amp combo and it was glorious. Never thought these little speaks can sound and kick the way they do. The bass no longer clips for me at max volume. Ty sir for a thorough review.
These little suckers pack a great punch and clarity. Love the convenience of bluetooth using with my MacBook. Have not even run it through my Topping NX4 DAC/AMP yet. I was so conditioned to putting on my headphones and forgot how much fun it is to hear and feel the music through speakers. Definitely worth it! This shot was after I refinished this tabletop for the new standing desk setup. It will never look this neat again.
They sound... Good. Better than portable bluetooth speakers out there for the same money. I don't like that they run on old bluetooth. You can't get any HD codex to work. You won't be able to control volume from bluetooth conneted devices. Connectivity is spotty. I wanted them for my computer desk. But sadly, they have been relegated to my bedroom. My micca rb42s conneted to my SMSL AD18 sound way better. Sidenote, the stands have plastic necks and sway easily. I hated them.
I've been into audio for decades, even having a significant music production studio at one point. So, I do have a lot of experience with speakers of all price points. My current desktop speakers connected to my computer are Klipsch units that I bought for $100-200, so a very similar price point. Similar size drivers too. There really isn't any comparison in regards to sound. These Edifier speakers are muddy, weak, lacking in definition, and overall just sound like cheapo $20 disposable speakers. BUT, they look amazing! It seems 95% of the cost went to the finishing and product design, and 5% went to sound quality.
I put them in my garage where the finish perfectly matches the red of my tool boxes, and where sound quality doesn't matter as much.
DotDashhThats a greatly exaggerated statement.
Ofc they're not some $1000 bookshelve speakers, thats quite literally impossible.
But for the design, price and size they're pretty good.
These drew my attention with their form factor and kept it wit with the reviews. I went through with the purchase and absolutely love the ease of installation and sound.
somedude0608Nice setup! I’ve been toying with the idea of using a vertical monitor for at least a decade, but after seeing one in action I may just give it a try. It looks great for browsing. What do you normally use the vertical layout for?
