Left speaker cuts out at times. No matter the source. Less than a year now I'm stuck with ewaste. I hate throwing things out like this but they need to hit the trash can.
Pros: Details. Instrument separation. 3-dimensional soundstage.
Cons: Lacks bass. Remote puck response is laggy. Controls are on the rear of speaker, instead of front/side.
I compared S880DB to R1280T. S880DB is a better speaker IMO. It is a lot more detailed. Each instrument is clearly separated. This separation adds to the soundstage. The bass is tight, but can be lacking for some. In comparison, R1280T has more booming bass. But lacks the detail and separation of S880DB.
Would've been an amazing deal if they worked. Unfortunately the left speaker was defective. They didn't have any replacement units but thankfully allowed me to return it.
When I saw these on sale for $150 and considering how pleased I have been with the Edifers on my own desk, I picked these up for my daughter's under-loft desk.
First off, these are handsome speakers. The white face with blonde wood sides went perfectly with my daughter's room decor.
Secondly, these are very usable speakers. The puck remote is intuitive enough for my daughter and works particularly well sitting on her desk. The buttons are clearly marked with no real need to pick it up to change functions, volume, etc. That means less chance of it getting lost.
Finally, they just sound terrific. Now I know that these are closer to a studio monitor from a sound profile standpoint and you can certainly hear that in the detail. The highs are a little shrill at times. But in dynamic mode, these put out a nice all around sound with good volume. Being under a loft, I did not want something with so much bass that it would be overbearing. These put out just enough bass on their own to make it feel like a party in my daughter's room but not sound like a party downstairs. If you are a parent, you understand ;-)
I am not an audiophile, but I can hear the sound difference between my Edifier R1700BT. Aesthetically it's pleasing and the size is much smaller compare to the Edifier R1700BT. I would 100% recommend this for its price.
