From El Casco, a Spanish company with a long history in metalwork, this heirloom-quality pencil sharpener makes a statement in any office. The solid brass body is lacquered in your choice of finishes, entirely matte with the exception of two mirrored side panels. Large enough to accommodate thicker pencils, the entry point is covered with three blades that retract and extend to keep shavings from spilling out onto your desk. Use the rotating wood handle to sharpen your instrument, and peek into the overhead viewing window to see the machine’s inner workings. All the while, the vacuum-mount bottom keeps your sharpener firmly in place.
Note: At checkout, you’ll have your choice of finish: black and chrome, blue and chrome, orange and chrome, red and chrome, white and chrome, yellow and chrome, or black and gold (+ $35). This drop is limited to 13 units.
Founded in September of 1920, El Casco was originally a firearm factory. When the economic downturn came in 1929 and the arms industry began to struggle, the company decided to expand its product line to include staplers and pencil sharpeners—and later, desk accessories. Despite modern advancements, its products are still largely made by hand and each part individually numbered for assembly. This pencil sharpener is appointed with a knightly logo, appropriate for El Casco, whose name translates to “the helmet.”
