The CAL! is a terrific headphone from the perspective of its sound. I believe it is still on InnerFidelity's wall of fame, in fact. Build quality is a bit sketchy, however, with thin wires, a flimsy headband, and cheap plastics used on the bails and earcups. The wooden cups on the version offered here are a clear improvement, but at the current price for the CAL! on Amazon I am not sure the MD price is justified. Still, the wooden cups sure look nice, don't they?
Just wanted to pop in and give my $0.02 on these since I've been using our sample pair for a few days.
Sound quality is good driven either by an amp or my ak240 or straight off my laptop. Isolation is high enough for me to comfortably use them on BART. They are super lightweight and comfy and IMO don't seem unreasonably fragile.
As always these are just my impressions and I'm happy to answer any more specific questions I can.
Are the pads removable and if so, are there alternative pads available in the market in proper sizing?
Yes, the pads can be removed and easily replaced. Brainvwavz HM5 pads and angled pads will fit these headphones, and the Dekoni pads that were a recent drop will fit them, too. I'm sure there are others that will fit, as well.
