yogiwpI think @chan_emu mentioned something in the discussion about the difference between the two.
The main thing that stuck out to me was that bamboo is not actually wood, and that it is actually a type of grass. This might not be true, but in my mind, how I picture it, the teak wood would be better at making the music sound better than the grass bamboo would due to the composition of "wood vs. grass".
My main drive of why I would strive to get the teak cups versus the bamboo ones is because from the previous drop (where I got mine from), there was an option to get rosewood and mahogany I believe; however, you could order those cups later, but the teak cups were an exclusive; therefore, buy the teak ones. You may never be able to get them later on.
yogiwpI'm wondering as well. It seems like the bamboo may have a better soundstage, but be harder to drive... I'm also worried about the recessed midrange... that seems to be a criticism on all but the teak. I wonder what the actual increase in soundstage is... I really dont want to buy both cups, but I may break down and do it...
Jack-in-the-BoxI will agree with you regarding Teak being exclusive, so it might be worth it for that reason (if you plan to eventually collect them all).
However I will disagree that Bamboo being grass therefore sound inferior. Denon's new flagship AH-D9200 uses Bamboo, for that reason I'm intrigued to see how Bamboo sound.
Again, I can't tell you for certain either is better because I've only heard Teak. But there's a chance that some people might prefer one over another.
zep483You might still be able to contact Massdrop or E-Mu to see if you can switch the order, doesn't hurt to try.
EDIT: enquiry@emu.com is E-Mu's e-mail.
HydeYeah, I might contact them. Not sure I want to spend 80 on them though... let me know how yours sound, might buy them used or pick them up later if they're better than the teak.
