Zorbaal@Zorbaal

That is the layout we made for testing and we'd be open to launching it as a separate buy later on if there's enough interest.

WillHi Will. 1. The layout you made for testing is weird. ;-) 2. Isn't one of the key features of the ErgoDox its configurability? I think most people made their own layout or at least tweaks to the default and it'd be hard to impossible to find a common layout to have printed. We tried to do just that over at GeekHack once, for Kinesis Advantage keyboards. The result was that it would have to be blank. :-)

For inspiration, this is what I'm currently using: https://www.massdrop.com/ext/ergodox/?referer=UWH9G8&hash=f0b418669d6503a10054f42831914fe2
It's somewhat similar to the one I used on a Kinesis Advantage for over 5 years. It features just 1 extra layer, with thumb access to it. Second Enter for the left hand, and arrows on left hand for concurrent right hand mousing. Number row is shifted to the left to feel the same as on a regular keyboard. Keys below [stop] are [play/pause], [next] and [prev], added manually later. Don't mind the letter keys, they're actually in Colemak (but in software on the computer).

WillPersonally, what I would like to see for a DCS groupbuy is QWERTY legends (not that I type QWERTY anymore) for rows 1-4, but with blanks for the outside and inside columns, the bottom row, and the thumb clusters.

This is based on my opinion that QWERTY is probably used by >50% of people buying an Ergodox. Those that don't type QWERTY are probably already proficient at touch-typing their chosen layout. And the keys that I've kept blank are most likely going to be changed based on person preference.

nomadedBecause the slope of the keys are different for each row, printing the legends would dictate the placement of the keys. So if I want Dvorak or Colemak, I still have to put QWERTY legends on my keyboard. It's probably more likely ErgoDox users are already touch typists who don't need legends for the letter keys. I think people who want legends can apply their own.

sidewaysmilkRight, I understand that. That's why I said to go with QWERTY legends if there was going to be a groupbuy of non-blank DCS keys. Those that type other layouts won't care what the keys are labeled as.

I don't expect a groupbuy like this to happen. I'm keeping an eye out for the currently active groupbuys at geekhack.org, but at this time I fully expect to buy my own keycaps directly, from either SP or WASD, starting with one their 87-key kits and supplementing the rest as custom blanks.
