so I think the original forcast for the november drop was to start shipping on or about the 29th of this month.
What's the over/under on hitting the 29th?

JasonMillerWe should be pretty close to seeing another drop start and the start of the shipping of the last one.

cartman-2000So if I 'showed interest' like last week, I have to wait for months now ? I'm sorry for my ignorance, I have no idea how it works. I really want one ASAP as my last awesome keyboard broke, and now I'm reduced to pain typing. :)

matiuIt takes some time to put together all the parts of the Ergodox kit, unlike most massdrop's where it's, 'Order [x] of unit, ship to drop participants.'
I was involved in the November drop, which isn't supposed to start shipping until _today_, January 29. I don't expect to see my keyboard for another 2-3 weeks, at least. About that time, the next drop will start. So May - June, by very rough estimate, you can get your hands on one via Massdrop. Otherwise, check out mechanical keyboard forums, ebay, etc, as these occasionally come up for sale elsewhere.

infowolfe... Yeah, 48 days ago for the *previous* drop. There hasn't been a single word about this one other than the 'the drop was successful' email. Check it yourself -- 58 days since the drop succeeded, and MD hasn't said a thing in here about our drop.
It's 9:30 PM PST. Judging by their current behavior and the previous drop's problem reports, if they do say anything, it'll probably be posted at 11-something PM PST, and say little more than, "Oh, sorry, we ran into some problems. Expect to hear from us by some later date."
This is absurd. 58 days after giving them a wad of money, and I don't even know if the parts for our kits have been ordered yet. Even the status on my transaction page merely says, "Status: Drop successful." It's not the wait time that I object to; it's being kept in the dark that bothers me.
I realize that this is a more complex drop, that they've run drops close together, and that there are likely to be obstacles to overcome. That's fine; problems happen -- but when they do, we should be the loop!
I am extremely disappointed by the complete lack of communication.

arithonI was taking part in a former drop of the ergodox and it was exactly the same. No communication, but the package did arrive someday. With missing parts, but only some of the diodes, nothing you wouldn't get locally. So come on guys, work on your communication habbits !!!!

arithonYeah, this is nothing but a huge disappointment.
I wonder what Massdrop was doing for the last 2 months after the drop had successfully ended.
Were they just goofing off or what?

craftgearNah, I'm sure they've been busy. Keep in mind that this drop is a $66,000 USD operation, at minimum. That's with none of the extra options (keycaps, plates, switches, o-rings) that made the drop so attractive in the first place. And that's just *this* drop. When our drop finalized, they were still dealing with the previous drop. For this drop alone, they've gotta place orders for at least 64,000 parts (again, assuming *no* extra options ordered), wait for them to show up [business-to-business transactions can take infuriatingly long amounts of time, unlike business-to-customer transactions], and then sort them out.
It's not trivial in the slightest, and any one of the vendors can derail their schedule with almost complete impunity.
I understand all of that, and I actually don't mind -- I knew it was going to take a while when I signed up. I'm just really frustrated because there's been no communication apart from the initial automated email. Were the parts ordered? Have any of them arrived? Are they still waiting on parts? *shrug* I've no clue, and that's the bad part.

craftgearStill filling orders for the previous drop, which they had some quality control issues with shipments (supposedly solved for this drop), awaiting shipments from all the vendors for all the parts, working on the other dozens of drops they have going on right now.

reignsphereExactly. It's pretty obvious to me that they're just swamped. That's fine -- but they really need to communicate with us. No communication for two months is just not cool.

arithonI just wanted to say that you've echoed my sentiments exactly. I don't feel the need to trash Massdrop, to piss and moan that they missed their target ship date. Frankly I'm just glad that Massdrop exists so that I have a chance at actually getting my hands on an Ergodox - even if that means assembling it myself. Whining is not constructive. However, the lack of communication is really, really FRUSTRATING, not to mention unprofessional. Saying "Sorry, still waiting on X, Y and Z", would be very easy for them to do, and the silence is deafening. I'm starting to get obsessed with checking this comments section, refreshing many times an hour, just hoping for some update... It's probably borderline unhealthy.

boingoloverYup. I've been refreshing this page too. I'm kinda of the opinion that MassDrop should be hiring more employees if they can't meet deadlines/communicate effectively with the community. We are why MassDrop works, if enough of us get annoyed, that community bails and then there's no more MassDrop.

mutzThe fact of the matter is that we're now on the 3rd day since they were supposed to start shipping and radio silence. I'm not sure I'll personally be able to use MassDrop in the future for any purpose. Better to pay slightly more and actually have not just accountability, but transparency when it comes to when my $300 worth of parts is going to arrive.

infowolfeI think the value of Massdrop isn't so much about saving money - though that is a perk in most cases. For me it's about buying things you couldn't easily buy otherwise. In the case of the Ergodox in particular, without Massdrop I would imagine that the number of these keyboards in the wild would be in the tens at best, versus the hundreds or even thousands that are out there now. With the Ergodox, you simply have no option to source one by paying only "slightly more". You can have the PCB's created, get a case made, order all of the components yourself, piece together a set of keycaps and switches, but you're going to be out SIGNIFICANTLY more and possibly be waiting just as long. My ONLY complaint about this whole process, personally, is the lack of communication. The waiting I get, the waiting in the dark is hard to take.

infowolfeEh. I've no real problems ordering from MD; I've ordered other stuff, and will continue to do so. This is the most complex drop I've seen them offer, and it's absolutely no surprise to me that it's not going perfectly smoothly.
I figure we just need to be squeaky wheels until we get status updates. I'm sure they're trying to do the right thing, it's just not always easy to figure out what that is when things don't go way you expected. :/

arithonFrom what I have read on comments nobody has a real problem with MD not meeting the expected delivery date. The problem everybody seems to have is MD being dead silent about it.
If I they come up and say that the shipping will not start until 2 weeks I will probably give me the peace of mind to stop checking the site 5 times a day hoping for some kind of update.

They promised, we paid.
And they don't meet the deadline.
That's it.

craftgearIt says "estimated date" not "definite date". There wasn't a promise it would be coming that day. The problem is they haven't said ANYTHING even though that estimated date has passed.
