I'm about to order a solder iron for the first time. I've researched quite a bit and people have recommended 25-30 watt with 60/40 core. Truthfully I don't plan to solder in the future, so cheaper the better. For someone who had experience with this, what do you recommend? Is this setup good?

KyeonjinThere's a youtube video by "WhiteFireDragon" where he assembles his ergodox (

). Studying this, and reading posts (some by him), I've arrived at the following for an ergodox assembly tool kit; keep the soldering iron on setting 2. This is what I've ordered. http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/28EJTUH0M3INZ/
Though "WhiteFireDragon" has that very iron, and recommends it to people, he has a more expensive one he actually uses in the video, as seen here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/2RKVFGGZDXOXQ/
Perhaps that will help you, as it even includes a surface to perform the work on (the baking mat).

KyeonjinI tried to give you informations you have not written in your question and they ARE useful! I could give you the answer to your second question but you seem to know everything better so ask anyone other.

nacitarWould you post a link to the silicone mat that you had on your Amazon wish list earlier? I forgot to make a note of it.
EDIT: Nevermind, I found it.
