Awesome knife. For anyone interested, would highly recommend springing for the TKC G10 scales. Really improves the ergos due to the stock handle, which is very blocky.

RudeBoyzI never understood why people buy cheaper knives and upgrade them with expensive sheath and handle scales that ends costing more then the knife. I'm not referring you specifically but to people who buy like a BKs and others... then go on the spend over a hundred on a sheaths and handles. Why not just get a really not just get a good complete knife to begin with.

JakeSullyYeah I don't know about putting over a hundred extra into a knife, but I'm pretty happy with the $150 I have in this one. Being able to customize a knife to make it your own is pretty cool and part of the fun. Perhaps people also can't spend the whole $150 or $200 or whatever at the time so they piece it together.

RudeBoyzIf you plan to those scales, you might as well just use knife connections's build a esee 6. It comes out to $136 shipped and is cheaper and you whatever scales and shealth color you like.

JakeSullyHere's my thoughts as an Esee owner with 2 custom Armatus sheaths for my Esee 4, and Izula 2. I can say they make amazingly high quality knives that I'd trust with my life. But there specialty is knife making not sheath making. The Izula knives, Esee 3, and Esee 6 all use molded plastic sheaths, which most people aren't fans of and almost no major knife company makes truly high quality kydex sheaths... and most custom knife makers tend to usually pair up with a established kydex or leather worker to make there knife sheaths for them. Personally I hate pancake kydex sheaths and much prefer a taco sheath for a more low profile/concealed scout carry and though Esee sheaths work adequately enough there's some room for improvement and considering that Esee knives are built to last a lifetime of use and abuse, many people are willing to spend a bit of extra money to accessorize and customize the knife to there liking... After owning my Esee 4 for 5 years and my Izula for about 3 years, I finally upgraded the sheaths having always wanted taco sheaths for them and I couldn't be happier with them. They are a big step above the stock sheaths and an upgrade I'd recommend to anyone that carries an Esee regularly. If you just use the knife for the odd camp trip a few times a year then obviously upgrades aren't as important/necessary, but for EDC use the proper sheath makes a huge difference. Also if your ordering online you don't know how the knife will feel in hand until you try it yourself. Some people love Esee's flat handles others hate them, but you gotta feel and use the knife for yourself to really decide if a handle upgrade is necessarily or not. Also Esee has addressed the criticism of there knife handles and now make a modified handle series of knifes that are for those that prefer a more palm filling handle, but there sheaths still ain't the greatest and are always worth a consideration for upgrading IMO, just like many other knife companies in the same price range and even higher ranges, there sheaths tend to be a let down, once you've experienced the feel of a custom made sheath. And lastly after owning a knife for a long enough time sometimes its kinda nice to try out a new sheath, or handle just to make it seem new and exciting/interesting again and to bring some new life into your trusty old favorite knife. Sorry for the long ass reply tried to make it as brief as possible, but also tried to be vary thorough with my explanation lol

Hook02I did order a custom sheath in desert camo since I got the dark earth blade. same deal with the izulla2, not to worried about handles at this point. I have large hands, so maybe they will work for me. I have a number of knives, and yes, my dissatisfaction is always with the sheath. You would think with the money they charge they would give you an adequate sheath, I guess the sheath makers need to take our money as well. I can understand if you want something special, but the one that it comes with should fit the price.

Hook02I totally agree with you on custom Knife Sheaths. I prefer Kydex Sheaths because they do no absorb water like Leather Sheaths when they get wet. There are some nice Kydex Sheath manufacturers out there that make some quality Sheaths. A few that I have used in the past are AZWELKE (http://www.azwelke.com/), Red Feather (http://redfeathergear.com/) and Buy Brown (https://buybrownind.com). Now if you really want to go all out, check out Yellow Hawk (https://yellowhawkcustomkydex.com/) ..... But make sure you have deep pockets.
