Product Description
A lightweight survival knife with plenty of utility, the ESEE Izula can get you out of a jam. Named for the tough, aggressive, light-on-its feet Peruvian Bullet Ant—so called because its sting is comparable to being shot with a bullet—the knife packs a serious punch despite its small stature ... Regular is $43.65 and survival kit version is $52.20 at Knifeworks. Not sure on shipping charges there, but I’ve had good luck buying from them in the past, and I believe they’ll do international shipments.
They tend to be around MD prices fairly often actually...

Can the clip be separated from the sheath? That is, I would like to use the sheath without the weight and bulk of the clip.

Yes, just a few screws. Phillips if I remember correctly. The sheath is a little on the bulky side to begin with though, so consider an aftermarket kydex one for the Izula, I've got an armatuscarry one.

G'Day,
I received my knife today, which is awesome but I didn't receive the clip plate. How do I go about getting this oversight rectified?
Thanks,
Dave

Funny, I just received mine, but unfortunately am missing the Molle hardware. I did order the kit, and did receive the clip plate, but not the Molle lock...

For all the people shitting on this drop - this is a great price and a great deal for overseas buyers. Sure there's a wait time but I'd literally be paying double to buy this in my own country. Plus many US vendors won't ship here.

I like fixed knives like this, something you can just weave your own 550 cord into, make a real handle, or just leave it minimalist style. If you can't get an ESEE in your country try one of the many others like it out there. This knife (ESEE Izula) is probably the best and certainly the most well known/popular.
This is a good price 9(~$48)
Also consider this BuckKnives alternative:

I have the Buck 141. More carry options on the Izula and lighter. And I think the 1095 steel on the Izula is better.

Is this really considered full tang? Seems like it's a modified rat tail or partial tang. With their superb reputation I'm sure it doesn't matter. I'm just curious.

Full tang is the blade metal running from the tip of the blade to the end of the handle, which in this case is naked. You can buy grips that cost more than the knife and outfit ! The KnifeCenter has some nice ones on sale right now - https://www.theknifeconnection.net/izula-g10-handles/

I wouldn't consider a rat tail a proper full tang given that it's usually welded like that. Sure it's solid metal, but it's a wimpy little weld joint holding it together. Without the rod, it's a partial stub tang at best. With it, it's a very weak "full tang" blade.

For the sake of further explanation, this is similar to a rat in that it's much smaller than the blade and needs a full cover handle, but this is a legitimate full tang. The Izula has a decent bit more there than something like this without ever adding a handle. Adding scales would have you not even remotely questioning it (and ESEE does have scales made for these). Good, full tang blades don't have to have a tang as big as the entirety of the handle (in the case of something like the blade I have here), nor do they have to be a solid piece of stock (like the Izula) to be very solid.

Mine arrived about as sharp as your average butter knife. Fairly disappointing considering the quality I had expected from this brand.

Hey. I contacted Massdrop's Community Support but they were unable to help, directing me to ask the Community here. So, I was wondering if anyone could tell me the color of the molded sheath and clip plate is included with the Pink option I've selected of the ESEE Izula knife. The description on Massdrop doesn't specify and the only images of the sheath & clip plate are of the Black option. On ESEE's website, it identifies them as both being White (same as the Purple Izula, actually). I'd much rather both the sheath and clip plate be Black, but I don't know if that's possible. I've only participated in 1 other Drop so my knowledge is limited. Thank you for any help anyone can offer!!
Also (& I've not read the rules regarding this, so please ignore if frowned upon) if I'm only able to get a White sheath & clip plate, would anyone like to trade their Black pieces? Thanks again!! - Jenn

This is one of those knives that if you wrap it in 550 cord (design is great for this option), it will be much more comfortable and versatile.
Overall, great knife, and excellent price compared to all the normal places.

Can this be mounted so it sits horizontally on a belt? It almost looks like where the screws mount is square, so maybe? Can anyone verify?

Not positive about the izula sheath, but if it's a larger version of the sheath for the candiru then the holes are at a slight isosceles trapezoid, not perfectly square.

My sheath is slightly different than this one being offered, but like someone else pointed out, you can use paracord to make loops to slide your belt through. Works well enough.

Sadly, we in the UK are considered a restricted country by BladeHQ and they won't ship here. The Izula to buy in the uk ranges from £58 to £85 which is roughly $72.5 - $106, so the Massdrop deal is actually very good for us here.

All 1095 Esee knives have a lifetime transferable warranty that guards against pretty much everything but corrosion. It's worth checking out their website, they're a cool company. https://eseeknives.com/
