At this point in time, I believe that the RAT-1, or 2, is a much better knife. I don't like the RAT-2 as much as the 1 because of the smaller size. The 1 feels much better in hand. As an aside, this is NOT as Esee knife. It was designed by Esee, but they to not manufacture it.

14themoneyFWIW, this knife is made in China. It is distributed by Blue Ridge Knives. The RAT logo was licensed to BRK. This knife neither carries the ESEE brand, nor it is warranted by them.

  • I have both the Zancudo and the Avispa. Neither one has the name ESEE on it. Here is a statement that I shameless copied from the ESEE site----> This no-questions-asked warranty only applies to ESEE Knives and EXPAT Knives. All Avispa and Zancudo folder warranty requests must go to Blueridge Knives (not ESEE Knives), since we do not manufacture these products.
I did not mean to imply that this was a RAT. The logo on this knife bears a Randall Adventure Training logo.

CITIUSMine are about a year old. I don't know when these knives were released. Perhaps the company (ESEE) changed something early in the game. I know when I first saw them and saw that the ESEE name was associated with them, I was very excited about picking up an ESEE for that kind of money. When I investigated, I found out the info that I've posted.

CITIUSI looked at mine again. It's obvious that I never really looked closely at the RAT logo because that does bear the ESEE initials. The first two are Spanish for Survival School (If my memory serves me.) and the last two Es are Escape and Evasion. I really don't know the ins and outs of Randall and ESEE. Thank you for helping me cognizant of my environment.

14themoneyThat makes sense. I've always liked the look of the zancudo and rat II, but the Rat II always gets better reviews in build quality. Reviewers often say it's as though they're made in different factories.

KizerThat's a true statement. They are made in different factories. When I got the Zancudo and the Avispa, I was disappointed- in the action and the feel in hand. If you have not had the opportunity to feel both, I would do so before ordering the BRKs. I still have mine, but they don't see the inside of my pocket, just the inside of my drawer.
