Yaderb11Short answer is get both LOL Long answer if you have never picked up a guitar before, beginner techniques will essentially be the same for either. So I would say Google the inherent acoustical properties of each guitar type and think about the type of music/sound you want to learn.
Regardless, you really won't really know your preferences until you start playing. It is like asking what will be your favorite sports car to drive before you even have your license. While a chord is a chord is a chord, different people are drawn to different sounds. Most important is to find a guitar or sound that makes you excited about learning (and disregard the internet fanboi myths).
There are also logistical differences to consider. Acoustic will also be overall cheaper and more portable. You just need a guitar. You won't not need a guitar amp, cords, electricity, etc. But you better make sure to have a quiet space to practice that won't incur seething hatred of all your neighbors. Whereas electric you can use studio headphone. That's my $0.02 from when I learned.

Yaderb11ive been playing for 25 yrs and i taught both my sons to play... i learned on a old crappy harmony box guitar(acoustic)self taught zero lessons... but i have found that its much easier to learn on a decent electric guitar verses a run of the mill acoustic...assuming you wanna learn scales and not just open string strumming.. my sons picked up pretty darn quick on my Fender strat,Gibson sg, and Paul Reed Smith...wish i was so lucky..this seems like a pretty good "beginner" and possibly "intermediate"(with upgrades) keep in mind that this guitar will never sound as good as the above video clip running through a crappy amp...DONT skimp on the amp or your in for a disappointment...

kkt45Thanks I appreciate the input. I am new to guitars but I am probably going to be aiming to become proficient at Metal tracks and Classic rock wish is what I enjoy listening to. It looks like the model I wanted is gone but I am sure there will be another drop sooner than later.
