To reply to a few posts below: 1) these are made in the U.S., not in China as a person below speculated. 2) given the materials cost and the U.S. manufacturing, $850 for these is a steal. The person who posted that they should be 1/4 the price (approx. $210/pair) must have no idea how much quality speakers cost.

eric_kraussI do agree with you, however the real wood ESS AMT LE cost only $995 per pair direct from the manufacturer. Black base that former Massdrop is offering really looks ugly IMO, I would rather pay more for wood base. Also, these are bookshelf speakers that you can't place on bookshelves because of their tweeter construction and you need to find some speaker stands with unusually wide top plates to make place for downfiring woofer.

eric_kraussI have the original AMT1’s, they have been refoamed and recapped and still sound wonderful. I do know of which I speak as I worked at Pacific Stereo (exposing my age?) during my college days and also own for comparison JBL L-65 jubal, L-50’s, Yamaha NS1000m’s and NS1m’s, Infinity epsilon’s, sigmas, and Intermezzos and a pair of Maggie mmg’s. Past speakers include to the Kappa 9.1’s , Spica TC-50’s, Pioneer HPM 100’s. I even have some Dynaco A-25’s and A-10’s in the garage. I regret selling the spica’s and my Krell KSA-50’s . Never did sell my vinyl collection though and maybe even hogged out a bit when friends were seduced by “perfect sound forever” CD’s and sold their LP collections off but hey c’est la vie!!! Perhaps I was a bit harsh and speaking from my own personal point of view but at $800+ large they seem to me to be over priced when you can buy a very nice near full range Magnepan LRS (shockingly good) around $650 factory direct, also manufactured in the USA. However, with a decent subwoofer, I bet the AMT LE will sound grand. Good luck, I am happy to see the brand being kept alive and still manufactured here in the USA!
